Thank you!\r\n\r\n2025-26 is the first year for Art at Reservoir Gifted Academy in years and with all of your help, we are kicking off the year in splendid fashion.\r\n\r\nWhat we needed were the foundational tools - paper, pens, pencils, ruler, glue, scissors, tape and so on - to just start the year as we had nothing. And you all helped us to have this foundation.\r\n\r\nWe began the year going back to the basics, as many students haven't had Art in their curriculum for years. \r\n\r\nThe theme for this year is Practice Makes Art and every lesson built on the previous to reinforce the importance of review and practice.\r\n\r\nFirst, we draw lines, curves and shapes and how to put them together to make the things we see in our head or from life drawing. All drawing, we learned, is just lines!\r\n\r\nThen we moved on to shading and perspective drawing, putting everything together in one project: \r\n\r\nWe took our first drawing of the year - a single dice showing three sides, done on day one, with no instruction. Then we did our last drawing of the quarter - the same dice but done with all of the skills we had been practicing. The results were great. A lot of confusion that results from not understanding how lines work, how shading creates depth and especially how perspective functions was resolved.\r\n\r\nWe are moving on now to do more paper-based projects first semester, including drawing but expanding to 3-D paper art as well. Next semester, we hope to get \"messy\" with paints or clay or printing. Might need another DonorsChoose project...\r\n\r\nThank you again for your support.
