Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would be able to bring Ozobots into my elementary science classes. Because of your generosity, this dream has become a reality.\r\n\r\nYour support has made it possible to introduce robotics and coding to an elementary school where most students come from minority and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. For many of them, access to technology is limited — but now, through your kindness, they are experiencing it firsthand. Bringing Ozobots into our classrooms has been truly transformative.\r\n\r\nFor the past two months, students have been exploring the world of robotics with uncontainable excitement. Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy during STEM enrichment sessions are heartwarming. Currently, students in grades 2–4 are using the Ozobots, and our goal is to expand this experience to every grade level by the end of the school year. Not only are students learning about coding and robotics, but they are also being introduced to STEM careers — opportunities they might not have otherwise encountered.\r\n\r\nThere are two main reasons I wanted to bring this experience to my students. First, STEM education equips students with essential 21st-century skills — communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity — all crucial for future success. By developing these skills early, students gain a foundation they can continue to build upon throughout their education.\r\n\r\nSecondly, STEM learning supports social-emotional growth. Through hands-on projects, students learn to compromise, share ideas, problem-solve, and build confidence. These experiences help them develop resilience and interpersonal skills that extend far beyond the classroom.\r\n\r\nOnce again, I want to express my deepest gratitude. The experience you have made possible at Washington School is one I will forever cherish. You have helped me share my passion for STEM and ignite that same curiosity and excitement in the next generation of learners.","fullyFundedDate":1746786507915,"projectUrl":"project/sparking-excitement-for-coding/9330683/","projectTitle":"Sparking Excitement for Coding","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wynne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7735065_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1731033439526","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7735065"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44117","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":321,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":45,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.2,"schoolId":44117,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Washington Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Washington Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/west-haven-public-schools/washington-elementary-school/44117"}
