These printers are successfully being implemented into our automotive technology curriculum and quickly became an essential hands-on learning tool.\r\nStudents used the 3D printers create automotive-related parts and tools, including clips, brackets, trim pieces, custom tool holders, and center caps for vehicle rims. One of the most exciting projects involved students designing and printing custom center caps to fit specific wheels. Students measured the rims, created digital models, and printed multiple versions until the final designs fit correctly. Seeing a part they designed installed on an actual vehicle helped students connect classroom learning to real-world automotive applications.\r\nThe printers also allowed students to support learning beyond our classroom. Two students independently used the 3D printers to design and print visual objects for other classes, helping teachers explain concepts through hands-on models. This experience showed students that their technical skills could be used to support others and contribute to the school community.\r\nMany students were introduced for the first time to CAD software, additive manufacturing, and the iterative design process used in modern automotive careers. Students collaborated, identified design flaws, made revisions, and reprinted improved parts. Several students chose to stay after class to refine their designs and begin new prints, demonstrating increased motivation and ownership of their learning.\r\nMost importantly, these 3D printers helped students understand how emerging technologies are used in today's automotive industry. Creating functional, real-world parts gave students confidence, pride, and a clearer vision of potential career pathways in automotive technology, engineering, and skilled trades.\r\nThis project would not have been possible without the generosity of our donors. Your support provided meaningful, hands-on experiences that will have a lasting impact on my students' technical skills and career readiness. Thank you for investing in our classroom and in our students' futures.","fullyFundedDate":1760742374433,"projectUrl":"project/3d-printers-for-the-automotive-classroom/9597142/","projectTitle":"3D Printers for the Automotive Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Stackpole","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8062800_orig.jpg?crop=1235,1235,x0,y157&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755202051061","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/waldoautotech"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41038","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":198,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":null,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":93,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":false,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"15.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":73.7,"schoolId":41038,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Waldo County Technical Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Waldo County Technical Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maine/-county-run-/waldo-co-tech-center/41038"}
