The specialized materials you helped provide have become essential tools in our daily therapy sessions, enabling students to make significant strides in their communication development. We've observed notable improvements in speech sound production as students practice with engaging materials that make receptive exercises feel like play rather than work. Their vocabulary and syntax have expanded, allowing them to express themselves with greater precision and confidence in both academic and social settings. \r\n\r\nThe resources you funded have been particularly transformative for developing receptive and expressive language skills, helping students better understand classroom instructions and participate in discussions. Their phonological awareness has flourished through targeted activities that build critical preliteracy skills, establish stronger foundations for reading success. Perhaps most heartwarming has been witnessing the growth in social skills as students gain the communication tools needed to form meaningful connections with peers and teachers, reducing the isolation that communication disorders often create. \r\n\r\nThese improvements extend far beyond our therapy room walls, enhancing students' overall classroom performance and quality of life. Students who previously struggled to participate in groups are now more eager to raise their hands to contribute, while others who avoided reading aloud now volunteer with newfound confidence. Teachers report increased engagement, improved academic outcomes, and stronger peer relationships among our speech therapy students, achievements that will continue to benefit them throughout their educational journey and beyond.\r\n\r\nYour support has been especially meaningful for our diverse student population facing complex communication challenges. Our students with Articulation Disorders can now practice with specialized materials designed to target specific sound production. Those with Autism Spectrum Disorder benefit from visual supports and social communication tools that address their unique needs. Students with childhood Apraxia of Speech are making progress through multi-sensory approaches that would not have been possible without these specialized resources. Your generosity has touched the lives of students with Language Delays, Phonological Disorders, Cognitive Impairments, Fluency Disorders, and Hearing Impairments, providing them with tailored interventions that respect their individual challenges while celebrating their potential.","fullyFundedDate":1733975670689,"projectUrl":"project/providing-speech-therapy-for-a-range-of/8817887/","projectTitle":"Providing Speech Therapy for a Range of Communication Disorders","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Jolene","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9776540"},{"teacherId":9730214,"projectId":8739777,"letterContent":"The items purchased for my class have enabled my students to use hands-on materials to further their understanding of literacy skills and musical concepts. For example, my students are using the math counters to place the number of sounds (syllables) per beat beneath the words associated with a book. In one of the pictures, you can see a student placing the math counters beneath the words from the book Llama Llama Red Pajama (by Anna Dewdney) to indicate the sounds (syllables) associated with each beat. \r\n\r\nWith certain books, we are able to discuss rhythm, beat, rhyming words, patterns, and have discussions about which instruments could be used while telling the stories. With the book Pitter Pattern by Joyce Hesselberth, students work on identifying repeating word patterns as well as playing the beat of those word patterns. For example, Students will identify the word pattern \"Pitter, pitter, pat! Pitter, pitter, pat! . . .\" Once identified, the students will determine the rhythm of those words (sounds/syllables per beat) and play the rhythm on instruments. This will be done for several word patterns within the book.\r\n\r\nMy younger students enjoy listening to the book From Head to Toe by Eric Carle. They even look forward to acting out the motions in the book. For example, they like to wave their arms like the monkey and clap their hands like the seal.\r\n\r\nIn my reading groups, my students are able to use their own CVC flashcards to practice reading words on their own. This enables me to target my instruction for individual students since each pack of flashcards focuses on one sound. This has been very helpful for my students who sometimes confuse the short e and short i sounds. The flashcard packs have enough words for each targeted sound so my students can practice multiple words with the needed sounds. \r\n\r\nAlso, my students absolutely love using the pointers as they point to individual sounds in words. One activity they enjoy is moving around the room and pointing to the sounds in words as they sound each word. They then practice writing those words on the white boards as they sound them out a second time. There are multiple stations in my room with posted CVC words that students can point to while sounding them out and writing them.\r\n\r\nIn addition, the Bob Books have been so valuable with my reading groups since I can assign the books to my students based on their individual needs. These books are great since my students feel successful when they can apply their decoding skills to reading actual books. I often use these books in centers in my class. I put different Bob books in each center so the students can practice reading multiple books in a class period. The Bob Books are usually the first books they grab on the days when they get to choose their own books to read.\r\n\r\nAll of the materials have made learning more fun and purposeful. Thank you so much for the materials Donors Choose has provided my students!","fullyFundedDate":1725726131607,"projectUrl":"project/improve-phonics-and-other-literacy-skill/8739777/","projectTitle":"Improve Phonics and Other Literacy Skills","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hessler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9730214"},{"teacherId":9730050,"projectId":8739511,"letterContent":"These materials have been a tremendous help in the classroom. My students were super excited to see the new materials in my classroom. \r\n\r\nI have been able to use my \"busy books\" with my students who have a hard time with sitting at the carpet for long periods at a time. Many of the literacy and math manipulatives are used with students who learn better with a hands on approach. Your contribution, including the math dice, CVC fill-in-the-missing-letter cards, and CVC word sentence strips, has truly transformed the way we learn in the classroom!\r\n\r\nSince receiving these resources, my students have been thrilled to dive into new activities. We've been using the math dice regularly during our math lessons, where the students roll the dice to create addition and subtraction problems. It's been amazing to see how engaged they are, especially when they challenge each other to solve problems quickly. The CVC word sentence strips have been equally beneficial in our phonics lessons. Students love using them to create sentences, and it's exciting to see them feel so confident reading their own work!\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were so excited. They couldn't wait to start exploring the new tools, and it was wonderful to see them so eager to learn. The classroom buzzed with excitement as they discovered how each item could help them grow.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're continuing to build on these new resources. Our next step is to use the CVC cards and sentence strips to create short stories, allowing students to practice their writing and spelling in a more creative way. I'm already seeing improvements in their reading fluency and writing skills, and I know these resources will continue to make a big difference in their progress.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for your generosity.
