The first time they saw the sequin panel on the wall they were so excited. They love spending time in the area where they can draw, feel, and see the sequins change from blue to purple and back again. \r\n The weighted dinosaur and and the weighted puppy have been a hit as well. Today, one of my students sat on the bean bag chair and read a decodable to the puppy. What a precious moment. \r\n The noise cancelling headphones have been a blessing. In my classroom, various groups are being taught at the same time. Partitions help with distractions, but with active students, the headphones have enabled the students to focus and concentrate on instruction. \r\n The next steps for my classroom and students is for them to continue to access and utilize the sensory area where they can continue to explore, take a break when needed, and feel that this area is safe place for them to continue to learn and grow. My students are learning how to work together by teaching each other how to build things through STEM activities. They have build rubber ducks with brain flakes, built hotels with inside rooms with magnetic blocks. They have even built vacuum cleaners with joint connectors. \r\n\r\nMy students were so excited when they recieved the materials because \"it was like nothing I have at home.\" I have never seen them play so quietly and gently with classroom learning tools. They take pride in these unique STEM tools. My students are enjoying reading them and enjoy being read to. The Wonky Donkey book series is a favorite, and I read it to the students at least once a week. My students are actively engaged in these books that were purchased. They love the plots and vibrant pictures. \r\n\r\nI am so happy to have incorporated Native American stories into my classroom library this year because it is so important to learn about the traditions and cultures of America's First People.
