The state books give my students an exciting, hands-on way to explore the states and regions we study in Social Studies. Many of my students come from rural areas and may not have had the opportunity to travel outside of our local community. These books allow them to \"travel\" across the country, discover new places, learn about different cultures and communities, and see how much there is to explore beyond their own backyard.\r\nThe Breadwinner books have also provided my students with an opportunity to strengthen their reading skills while exploring important themes such as courage, perseverance, family, and hope. Having engaging books available that connect to our curriculum encourages students to read more and helps them see reading as an adventure rather than simply an assignment.\r\nThese books will continue to be used year after year, giving countless students opportunities to learn, explore, and develop a genuine love of reading and learning. Many of them immediately wanted to try the pencils and were especially interested in the lead refills. They enjoyed learning how to refill the pencils themselves and appreciated having a tool they could use again and again. My goal was to create a learning environment where every student felt calm, focused, and ready to participate. The implementation of these tools had a significant positive impact on student behavior, emotional regulation, and overall classroom culture.\r\nAt the beginning of the year, I noticed that many students struggled to remain focused during instruction, independent work, and transitions. Some students frequently tapped their pencils, shifted in their seats, or became distracted by their peers. Others experienced anxiety or frustration when completing challenging tasks.\r\nI introduced a variety of fidget tools, including textured stones, squishes, pop-it toys, sensory rings, and finger skate boards. Students understood that the privilege of using a fidget tool depended on using it responsibly and remaining engaged in classroom learning.\r\n\r\nThe classroom atmosphere became noticeably calmer. Students were less likely to interrupt instruction because they had an appropriate outlet for managing stress and restlessness.
