With these books added to our collective group novel sets, we are able to do novel studies with the entire 8th grade student body in our English, English honors and Multilingual English classes. We have been able to get books in the hands of students that connect to our diverse population, are of high interest to students and increased motivation to read. With the energy of group novel studies across the grade level, the interest and pride in novels they were reading becomes contagious and we catch moments of students discussing books outside of English classes. Even our most reluctant readers were able to get matched with books that engaged them. I had one student say with pride, \"This is the first book I've ever really read all the way to the end.\" \r\nOur group novel studies have been incorporated into our year long 8th grade English curriculum and will have an impact on our students for years to come. The students are excited to create and chat with each other for an hour every Wednesday. As an educator, it makes me happy to see them enjoying the creative process and making new friends. One of my favorite observation so far was a student looking up a quote (you can see in one of the photos I shared) about seeing yourself as a winner.
