Because of you, my 10th grade Honors English students have had the opportunity to read, annotate, and truly engage with one of the most thought-provoking novels in our curriculum—each with a book of their own in hand.\r\n\r\nYour gift has made it possible for us to explore some of the most essential and timely questions facing young people today: What is the role of technology in our lives? What does it mean to think critically and independently? Why does storytelling matter? With Fahrenheit 451 as our anchor text, students have learned to analyze complex themes, draw connections to current events (such as media addiction and censorship), and practice writing literary arguments using evidence and deep reasoning.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and student-centered. We annotate directly in the books, mark passages that stand out, and hold rich Socratic discussions where students debate ideas and connect the novel to films like The Social Dilemma and real-world events. Having physical copies has made a real difference—students are more engaged and feel ownership of their learning because the books belong to them during our unit.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have truly come alive through this project. One student who has struggled to find a love for reading told me, \"This book actually made me think—like really think—about how we live now.\" Another student, a tech-savvy gamer, started bringing in articles on attention spans and screen time to contribute to our conversations, connecting the book's message to his own experiences. The access you gave them—to this novel and to these moments of reflection—is something they'll carry forward.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we didn't just read a book—we had a transformative experience. On behalf of my students and our school, thank you again for investing in their minds and imaginations.\r\n\r\nWith deep gratitude,","fullyFundedDate":1740522899792,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-media-censorship-and-critica/9110820/","projectTitle":"Exploring Media, Censorship, and Critical Thinking with Fahrenheit 451","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montoya","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9893494_orig.png?crop=192,192,x0,y63&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754153596714","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9893494"},{"teacherId":9893494,"projectId":9059621,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our literary magazine project. Because of your donation, we were able to purchase essential supplies—high-quality paper, printing materials, and art tools—that gave our students the chance to see their writing and artwork come to life in a professionally bound magazine they could truly be proud of.\r\n\r\nWatching my students flip through the finished copies of our literary magazine was an unforgettable moment. For many of them, it was the first time they saw their work published and presented with such care. One student stopped flipping through the pages, pointed to her short story, and whispered, \"I can't believe this is mine.\" That moment—and countless others like it—were made possible because of your generosity.\r\n\r\nThe project became more than just a publication; it was a community. Students collaborated to choose layout designs, revise drafts, and even write bios for the back pages. In one especially rewarding moment, two students who hadn't spoken much all semester ended up bonding over shared feedback on their poems—and went on to co-write a new piece that made it into the final issue.\r\n\r\nYour support helped give our young writers a platform and a purpose. They learned not only about writing and editing, but also about creative ownership, teamwork, and pride in their work.
