This approach helps students build stamina, patience, and critical thinking—soft skills that are invaluable for lifelong learning.\r\nYour contribution also made it possible for us to use the Finch robot, which shows students how mastering Scratch Jr can lead to more advanced coding with tools like Micro:bit. Watching the Finch move through procedural steps brings coding concepts to life in a tangible way.\r\nIn addition, students are exploring design thinking through art. They began by sketching prototypes of animals in their notebooks, then transformed those ideas into clay models—starting with bats! Soon, they'll animate features like blinking eyes, sounds, or rotating heads, connecting art with engineering principles.\r\nFor some of our students, especially those who struggle with handwriting, working with clay provides a calming, hands-on experience that builds confidence and creativity. These early projects lay the foundation for future units, where they'll design and build full-fledged dragons for our upcoming fairytale theme.\r\nYour generosity is helping us create a classroom where imagination meets innovation. About 130 students and their families enjoyed togetherness and community building through creating Art. Volunteers and teachers set up three Art making stations; key chains and zipper pulls with beads, nature rubbings and watercolor resist. Your generous donation allow our school to purchase the materials need for these stations. Music was playing outside in the schools playground area. Families were invited to dance, blow bubbles and create drawings with sidewalk chalk. Instead of being at Viewlands every other week, I'm now there 2 to 3 days a week. This has been wonderful for providing students with weekly library instruction and checkout, but it does cut into the time I used to have for Makerspace. I was hoping my schedule might allow me to resume Makerspace soon, but so far it hasn't quite worked out. I'm really hopeful I'll be able to adjust things so that both library time and Makerspace can happen every week next year. \r\n\r\nIn the meantime, I'm happy to report that the magnetic tiles are getting a ton of use! I regularly offer them as an option after checkout, and the students are loving them.
