Your generosity has already made a meaningful difference.\r\n\r\nThe table and kinetic sand have given our students a hands-on way to build and explore. Using tools to roll, cut, and shape the sand strengthens fine motor skills that are essential for writing. Manipulating the sand by pressing, pinching, and sculpting—supports growth in hand strength, coordination, and control.\r\n\r\nThe sand table is a popular area for choice time and a place for students to build social skills. Students take turns, negotiate roles, and share tools. They create stories together as they build which supports their language development, imagination, and cooperative play. This has been particularly valuable for our multi-language learners.\r\n\r\nThis week the kindergartners were thrilled to see the fish tank in our hallway being prepared for salmon eggs. In the new year, they will explore our community watershed and the salmon life cycle using the water table as a hands-on model. As they pour, divert, and dam water, students will see how rain travels from rooftops and hills into streams, collecting along the way and eventually reaching Lake Washington. They will use small figures and laminated cards to represent eggs, alevin, fry, and adult salmon, placing them at different points in the flow to show where each life stage needs clean water, gravel beds, and safe passage. Through playful experimentation—observing erosion, filtering, and flow speed—children will learn how our human actions upstream affect salmon downstream. We'll talk about simple stewardship ideas like keeping pollutants out of storm drains to protect our salmon and community.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for your support. Because of you, our learners have a safe, engaging space to practice important developmental skills while having fun. Thank you for investing in their growth and curiosity.","fullyFundedDate":1756260832404,"projectUrl":"project/run-salmon-run-in-our-classroom-waters/9304066/","projectTitle":"Run, Salmon, Run in Our Classroom Watershed!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Koch","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1126599_orig.jpg?crop=557,557,x50,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746422539430","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1126599"},{"teacherId":10076960,"projectId":9470354,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support in helping to create a Book Nook for my first-grade classroom! Whether it's non-fiction animal stories, their favorite Mo Williams book, or silly tales that make them giggle, having books organized and accessible has made reading time even more exciting and meaningful.\r\n\r\nThe smiles on their faces say it all.
