However, the real highlight came during our recent Literacy & STEAM Night. We read Boxitects by Kim Smith, and then students and their families got to turn their 2-D drawings into 3-D cardboard designs. The chomp saw made it easy and safe for everyone to cut through cardboard.\r\n\r\nThe best part was watching students create and problem-solve. Students were proud to share what they created, and families left with a real sense of how hands-on and creative STEAM learning can be.\r\n\r\nThis project has already gone beyond the classroom—it has built confidence, sparked creativity, and connected our school community in such a positive way. I have been able to integrate life lessons into the first couple of weeks of school. These stories see that they can relate to a problem and learn how to begin handling to solve the problem they have. Life lessons are important to discuss and share ways to resolve a conflict using kind words and reacting appropriately to the situation. \r\n Students learn by example, modeling correct responses is crucial for development. Many of our students are unable to afford headphones for school. These donations are allowing kids to have headphones for their computer programs that read to them. This is a place for students to go when upset or feeling overwhelmed. I love to provide a variety of tools that students can use to help them calm down and regulate their feelings.
