Instead of spending time searching for papers or materials, they can quickly find what they need and stay focused on learning. Each prize means a great deal to them because it represents their hard work and good decisions. Our classroom has become a place where reading feels exciting and meaningful, not just something we do for school, but something we choose to do for fun.\r\n\r\nI've noticed how much more often students reach for books during free choice and even ask to take them home. Immediately, students were quiet as they recognized a new noise in their classroom. They expressed how they enjoy having this as our new attention getter some students have even taken initiative to remind me of the \"door bell.\" Furthermore, students in our class have been collaborating to build STEM Projects that include but are not limited to rubber band cars, bridges, and towers. This year has been exceptionally difficult as we transition into a new classroom model of \"pods.\" This required myself and another teacher to be in a class of 44 students. We share the space and our resources, but with budget cuts it has become difficult to provide these special spaces for our students. \r\n\r\nThis project helped to fund a nice library section in our class that our students have thoroughly enjoyed. The bookshelves helped us to organize and categorize all our books. The rugs helped us to create a comfortable and warm space for them to read. We have been creating holiday keepsake ornaments, and bracelets as hands-on art projects. The students are enthusiastic to create something they could proudly display in their homes during the holiday time. This has lead them to share countless stories of holiday's past in which they've shared they still have certain artwork they've made throughout the years during the holidays. I am glad to hear this will now be one of those stories. \r\n\r\nLastly, bracelet making have served as an art project, and calm activity. I learned that students truly benefit from creating as many still struggle with fine motor skills. Bracelet making provides them the practice needed to improve in this area.
