I currently go into the ELA classrooms throughout the day and work with special education students on their IEP goals. I generally work with all the students, but my main focus is those students and progress monitoring their goals. Two years ago, we started the Learning Lab. This is a separate area where we bring students to work on assignments, their goals, and test in a quiet and separate location. Throughout the day, CWC teachers can use the Learning Lab as a landing spot for kids who need to work 1:1 or as a space for us to collect data and get work time for our case management students. Special education teachers do several background tasks in addition to supporting students. \r\nI reached out for support with this grant because our learning lab did not have any supplies in the room. This included office supplies, school supplies, and any supplies that we could offer a student who did not have the funds to purchase. The room was just not conducive to learning. Teachers tend to spend a lot of their own money on these supplies, and although we did do some of that, we tended to spend our money on snacks for the kids that came to work with us. \r\nThank you so much for your donations. We have gotten many items that support us as teachers in the office supply area. We have collected supplies for students to complete any tasks that they need help with. And finally, it feels like a classroom full of all of the things that students need to be successful. Even students who were shy at the beginning of the week gradually became more willing to participate, ask questions, and use English with their classmates.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching students encourage one another during our small-group games and conversation challenges. Instead of worrying about making mistakes, they focused on communicating, laughing, and working together. As their confidence grew, I saw students begin volunteering answers more often, starting conversations on their own, and supporting classmates who were still building their confidence. The snacks and welcoming atmosphere also helped create a sense of community where every student felt included and comfortable taking risks.\r\n\r\nYour support has given these students more than just materials. It has given them confidence in their own voices. The success of this pilot program has inspired us to continue expanding opportunities for multilingual learners to practice conversational English beyond the regular school day.
