What you may not see is how a novel like this helps students build essential language skills in a low-stress, high-interest way. As they read, students are acquiring vocabulary, strengthening their grammar intuitively, and improving their overall fluency. Even more importantly, they're building confidence in their ability to understand authentic Spanish without needing to translate every word.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is dynamic and student-centered. We use strategies like partner reading, dramatic read-alouds, discussion circles, and prediction activities to keep students engaged and thinking critically in the target language. Several students who were previously hesitant readers have become genuinely excited about following the plot and discovering more about Uruguayan culture through the characters' experiences. One student who rarely participated in discussions now eagerly volunteers to share her thoughts about the story. Your contribution has opened up these opportunities—not just to read a book, but to feel immersed in another world, all while growing as language learners. Thank you so much for making this possible!","fullyFundedDate":1736398518925,"projectUrl":"project/create-global-citizens-novels-for-span/8819058/","projectTitle":"Create Global Citizens - Novels for Spanish Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Prof. Wessels","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9593864"},{"teacherId":8509890,"projectId":8497946,"letterContent":"The students in my Creative Writing class are always looking for excellent, current books to read to inspire their writing ideas. They have time to free read during their class as well as being encouraged to take books home and create their own reading habits.
