Many of them come to school during the colder months without proper winter clothing, which affects not only their comfort but also their ability to focus and learn. With these essential items, students are now able to stay warm throughout the day—whether they are walking to school, transitioning between classes, or participating in outdoor activities.\r\n\r\nThis support has helped remove a major barrier to learning. Instead of being distracted by the cold, students are more present, engaged, and ready to participate. Beyond the physical warmth, there is also an emotional impact—students feel cared for, supported, and valued. Knowing that someone they've never met took the time to help them builds confidence and a stronger sense of belonging in our school community.\r\n\r\nThe resources are being used every single day, especially during arrival, dismissal, and transitions. One powerful moment came during a recent morning when temperatures dropped significantly. Normally, students would come in visibly uncomfortable—some even trying to warm their hands by breathing into them or rubbing them together.\r\n\r\nThis time, however, students walked in bundled up, smiling, and ready to start the day. We were able to begin our lesson immediately without the usual delays caused by students trying to warm up. In fact, during a recent math lesson, I noticed a significant increase in participation—students were raising their hands, staying focused longer, and engaging more confidently.\r\n\r\nIt may seem like a small change, but having basic necessities allowed us to maximize instructional time and create a more positive, productive classroom environment.","fullyFundedDate":1769449598474,"projectUrl":"project/winter-warmth/10053531/","projectTitle":"Winter Warmth","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cleary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3171980_orig.jpg?crop=1139,1139,x1139,y312&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1710354193563","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3171980"},{"teacherId":9483493,"projectId":9830500,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity and for believing in my students here in the Bronx. Your support has brought meaningful, engaging resources into our social studies classroom, and I'm excited to share the impact they're already having.\r\n\r\nMany of our students love books, but they are still developing the skills needed to fully access and learn from informational texts. With Wonders of the World (DK Eyewitness), students are learning how to navigate nonfiction features like headings, captions, maps, and diagrams. We're practicing how to identify main ideas, ask questions while reading, and make connections between past civilizations and the world they live in today. These are foundational literacy skills that help students become more confident, independent learners across all subjects.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active and collaborative. Students don't just sit quietly with a book—they discuss what they notice, turn and talk with partners, and engage in small group explorations. With the headphones you provided, students are also able to listen to audio supports and videos that bring historical places and events to life, allowing for more personalized and accessible learning experiences.\r\n\r\nThe Play-Doh has been an especially powerful tool for hands-on learning. Students have been using it to model ancient structures, landforms, and artifacts, turning abstract concepts into something they can see and touch. This has been particularly impactful for students who learn best through creativity and movement—they are more engaged, more focused, and more excited to participate.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are not only building academic skills—they are developing curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. Thank you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1765827851626,"projectUrl":"project/digging-into-the-past-exploring-ancient/9830500/","projectTitle":"Digging Into the Past: Exploring Ancient Worlds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Doran","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9483493"},{"teacherId":3171980,"projectId":9408358,"letterContent":"Receiving donated school supplies has a powerful impact on both my students and the learning environment in our classroom. These materials provide students with the essential tools they need to fully participate in lessons, complete assignments, and express their creativity. When every child has access to the same high-quality supplies, it creates a sense of equity and confidence—students can focus on learning rather than worrying about what they don't have.\r\n\r\nFor me as a teacher, having these resources means I can dedicate more time and energy to teaching and less to finding or purchasing materials out of pocket. It allows me to plan more engaging, hands-on lessons and ensure that each student can take part equally.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, the generosity of donors shows students that there are people who care about their education and believe in their potential. This support fosters motivation, gratitude, and a stronger sense of community within our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1758899190751,"projectUrl":"project/from-pencils-to-possibilities-equipping/9408358/","projectTitle":"From Pencils to Possibilities: Equipping Young Scholars","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Cleary","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3171980_orig.jpg?crop=1139,1139,x1139,y312&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1710354193563","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3171980"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94403","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":360,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":5,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":71,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"15.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":52.2,"schoolId":94403,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Urban Institute of Math on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Urban Institute of Math","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/urban-institute-of-math/94403"}
