Having this resource in our classroom made a bigger impact than I could have imagined. Many of my students often came to class hungry, and the snacks you helped provide gave them the energy to stay focused and engaged. I noticed that instead of losing steam halfway through a lesson, they were able to participate more fully in discussions and writing activities. The simple act of knowing they had something to eat created a classroom environment where students could focus on learning instead of hunger.\r\n\r\nI'll never forget the look on their faces the first time they saw the stocked snack bins. They were surprised, excited, and so grateful that someone cared enough to provide something so thoughtful. One of my favorite moments came during a long reading activity—normally, students would fade by the end, but that day, they stayed energized and even asked if we could keep going. It was such a clear reminder that meeting basic needs is essential for academic growth.\r\n\r\nAs I look ahead to the new school year, I know the foundation we built last year will carry forward. Because of your generosity, my students experienced a classroom that valued their well-being as much as their learning. Thank you for investing in them—it truly made a difference in their daily lives and their ability to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1740005129045,"projectUrl":"project/fuel-for-focus-energizing-snacks-to-boo/8895833/","projectTitle":"Fuel for Focus: Energizing Snacks to Boost Student Engagement","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Destinee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9811096_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755807245380","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9811096"},{"teacherId":6360922,"projectId":8883082,"letterContent":"Your donation has brought so much joy and connection to our space! Twice a week during lunch, some students from our student council volunteer to distribute snacks to students. This practice is not new to our school, but your donation lifted a burden off of teachers who typically fund this project, and for that we are very thankful! Your donation also introduced some new favorites, like sour patch kids, that we will incorporate in future giveaways.\r\n\r\nMost recently, your donations were used for a traveling snack cart, which we have never done before. It was launched at our movie screening. Students were so excited to have freshly popped popcorn and cool beverages to bring the movie experience to life, complete with projector screen and beanbags.\r\n\r\nWe hope to continue this tradition in the future. Your donation has helped us continue this operation and imagine new ways to bring nourishment, joy, and gratitude to our community!","fullyFundedDate":1729298543112,"projectUrl":"project/keep-our-students-nourished-and-support/8883082/","projectTitle":"Keep Our Students Nourished and Support Their Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Shari","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6360922"},{"teacherId":9795409,"projectId":8861537,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our students have gained invaluable insights into the connection between cleanliness, nutrition, and mental health. After reading articles, they worked on PowerPoint presentations to share their findings on how a clean space and full bellies contribute to a positive learning environment. The excitement was palpable when they saw the new materials—tools that helped bring these ideas to life—and they eagerly jumped into the project. Not only did they learn important life skills, but they also took ownership of their classroom by assigning roles for keeping it clean and maintaining a snack bin for everyone.\r\n\r\nThe sense of community that blossomed in our classroom was incredible. Students worked together to ensure that everyone was supported, both in maintaining the space and meeting their needs. The energy in the room was positive, and the students genuinely enjoyed being there. This project showed them the impact of small actions on mental health and well-being, and it fostered a collaborative spirit. Moving forward, they'll continue refining these habits, and I'm excited to see how this initiative evolves in the future. I'm confident this project will be a cornerstone of our classroom culture next year as well.","fullyFundedDate":1728269775539,"projectUrl":"project/how-cleaning-habits-can-improve-mental-h/8861537/","projectTitle":"How Cleaning Habits Can Improve Mental Health","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Doirin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9795409"},{"teacherId":9796698,"projectId":8922505,"letterContent":"As a new counselor at an urban high school in Manhattan, Donors Choose has been an invaluable platform that has allowed me to provide essential snacks and supplies for my students. Working with high schoolers in a bustling city often means addressing various challenges that can hinder their ability to focus and succeed. By utilizing Donors Choose, I've been able to gather resources that make a tangible difference in their daily lives. These contributions not only provide sustenance but also demonstrate to students that their well-being is a priority, creating a supportive and nurturing environment.\r\n\r\nI am incredibly grateful for the generosity of donors who understand the critical role of meeting basic needs in education. Their support has helped my students navigate their school days with fewer obstacles, ensuring they can focus more on learning and personal growth. These acts of kindness reinforce the idea that it truly takes a community to uplift and empower young minds.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, I plan to expand this effort by establishing a student support center in my office. This space will offer students access to whatever they need to have a smooth and successful school day, whether it's snacks, hygiene products, or other essentials. My goal is to create a welcoming hub where students feel supported and equipped to overcome challenges, reinforcing the idea that they are cared for and valued.","fullyFundedDate":1730923807273,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-and-snacks-for-nyc-students-cou/8922505/","projectTitle":"Supplies and Snacks for NYC Students Counseling Groups!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Deni","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9796698_orig.jpg?crop=1167,1167,x71,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1728483027819","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9796698"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106801","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":537,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":8,"percentBlack":26,"percentWhite":13,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 11","studentTeacherRatio":"19.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.0,"schoolId":106801,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Urban Assembly Maker Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Urban Assembly Maker Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/urban-assembly-maker-academy/106801"}
