Writing time is their favorite time. You can hear things like:\r\n\"Miss! I wrote more at home! Want to read it?\"\r\n\"Can I write about what my abuelita told me last night?\"\r\n\"Can I add more pages to my story?\"\r\nThey are bursting with stories, and it's honestly the most beautiful chaos I could ever hope for.\r\n\r\nMost of my students come from immigrant families, many of whom are navigating a new country, a new language, and a world of unfamiliar experiences. But in our classroom, they are experts, experts of their own lives, their family traditions, their cultures, and their dreams. Writing gives them a voice. A powerful one.\r\n\r\nThey write about the countries they left behind — with details that make us laugh, cry, and feel like we're there. They write about what it feels like to be a first-generation child translating for their parents, or what it's like to miss someone who's far away. Some write silly stories about cats that fly or volcanoes that eat homework (creative license!), but no matter what they are writing with heart.\r\n\r\nThanks to your donation, we don't have to panic when we run out of pencils mid-sentence or scramble to find a notebook for a new idea. We can celebrate their growth with stamps and fun stickers (trust me, a sparkly \"Wow!\" sticker can make a kid feel like they just won a Pulitzer). We use sticky notes to write feedback like, \"I love your ending!\" or \"This part made me feel something.\" Our anchor charts are filled with strategies we create together how to show not tell, how to add dialogue, how to describe a moment so it feels real.\r\n\r\nYou've helped make this little writing world of ours a safe, joyful, and exciting place. ✨\r\n\r\nYou are officially part of our classroom story. The cozy reading corner, with its comfy floor seats and wobble cushions, has become a favorite spot in the classroom. \r\n\r\nThe alphabet tubs have become an essential tool in my instruction. In a recent lesson, the tubs brought learning to life. The students were thrilled to explore the objects inside and sorted the objects by their beginning sounds. This helps make the connection between the objects and their vocabulary so tangible—an excellent strategy for supporting English learners. Each week, we'll continue to use the tubs to explore new letters, deepening their phonemic awareness and growing their vocabulary. \r\n\r\nYour generosity has created a classroom where my students feel safe, valued, and excited to learn.
