I was on medical leave at the beginning of the year and have recently returned to our school. We have had many staff changes and several of our students have returned to a more conventional school. Those who are here are definitely enjoying items your funding helped us purchase.\r\n The ping pong table and related items like paddles and balls are used daily as they ae in our incentive plan for positive behavior. They have also learned to use it for recreation as we have several Asian teachers here who have taught them some of the basics. They have learned that ping pong is truly an international sport and has even been an Olympic Sport.\r\n We have used the bowling set both in classes and when we have had our annual community/parent occasions when we have individuals in to see our school. We have taught individual scorekeeping although most bowling alleys now have automatic scorers. How times change. One way was to have additional materials to help the reteaching of basic skills with up- to- date lessons and project-based activity suggestions. We know that as students get up and do they learn in multiple ways, remembering facts and details better as well as cooperative working skills.\r\n\r\n Secondly, especially the math games, dice, and practice activities helped all improve both the accuracy when working math problems and helped our students gain a more positive attitude with math.\r\n\r\n Thirdly, during this STEM activity our students were able to partake in their growth in learning as they learned the importance of reading and following directions as they assembled their cars. They also gained some knowledge about circuits. The most fun they had though was when they raced their cars. \r\n\r\nWe are a very small school with an important mission. This year we have had multiple students improve enough in their skills and emotional regulation so they could return to their zoned mainstream school. That is our goal.\r\nFrom all of us at Tuning Point, thank you for being willing to support our project.","fullyFundedDate":1739375271147,"projectUrl":"project/learn-and-grow/9046307/","projectTitle":"Learn and Grow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fish","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5646657"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_106246","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":37,"numTeachers":9,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":73,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"7 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"4.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.3,"schoolId":106246,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Turning Point School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Turning Point School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/nevada/washoe-county-school-district/turning-point-school/106246"}
