Through this novel, students have practice important reading strategies, such as analyzing character development, and especially making text-to-self connections. This story helps my students think about empathy and what it means to embrace differences. \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, the students have been reading independently and in small groups, often pausing to discuss big ideas and surprise moments in the text. We discuss the challenges that the characters go through and often share their own perspective during classroom discussions.\r\n\r\nSome students, in particular, have been especially engaged with this book. Students have found Aven's journey to be inspirational, and her courage has made them feel more confident about facing their own challenges. Students are also drawn to the humor and heartfelt friendship in the story.","fullyFundedDate":1750437211847,"projectUrl":"project/reading-together-growing-together/9302838/","projectTitle":"Reading Together, Growing Together","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Costello","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8306845"},{"teacherId":9085109,"projectId":8891661,"letterContent":"My TK students and I are using the new resources for our light table in our classroom to offer a unique sensory and learning experience. \r\n\r\nThe materials on the light table, like the translucent manipulatives, are being used to sort, count, and used to create patterns, all while exploring light and color. \r\n\r\nThe materials have also facilitated sensory play, color exploration, and shadow play, sparking creativity and development.
