Because of your contributions, my students and I have transformed our A Raisin in the Sun drama and podcast unit into an engaging, student-centered experience that brought literature to life in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe are using the atlas rug, bean bag chair, fog machine, and visual timer as core tools in our collaborative podcast project. Students are working in groups to create a 20–30 minute episode that includes analysis, reenactments, and real-world connections. During planning sessions, students gather on the rug with their scripts, engaging in thoughtful discussions about character motivations, generational conflict, and deferred dreams. The bean bag chair has become a rotating \"lead seat,\" where students step into leadership roles and guide discussions.\r\n\r\nOne standout moment occurred during a recording session when a group reenacted a scene between Walter and Mama. Using the fog machine, they created a sense of tension and emotion that brought the scene to life. As the room filled with a light haze, students became fully immersed. One student reflected, \"It actually felt like we were inside the story.\" That moment captured the power of these resources in creating authentic engagement.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reaction was immediate excitement. They were eager to use the new setup, asking how they could incorporate it into their projects. That excitement quickly turned into focus and ownership, as students treated the space like a creative studio.\r\n\r\nThe visual timer has helped students stay organized and accountable throughout the project. With multiple stages—planning, scripting, rehearsing, and recording—students rely on it to manage their time and maintain productivity.\r\n\r\nNext, students will finalize recordings and move into peer review and reflection. They will evaluate each other's podcasts, provide feedback, and reflect on how collaboration and performance deepened their understanding of the text.\r\n\r\nYour support has created a space where students feel empowered to think critically, collaborate, and bring their ideas to life.","fullyFundedDate":1769455998340,"projectUrl":"project/a-raisin-in-the-sun-drama-in-the-class/10059977/","projectTitle":"\"A Raisin in the Sun\" Drama in the Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6791314_orig.jpg?crop=2707,2707,x0,y92&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1769296408673","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6791314"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40335","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2465,"numTeachers":108,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":27,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":64,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"22.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":91.7,"schoolId":40335,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Turlock High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Turlock High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/turlock-unified-school-district/turlock-high-school/40335"}
