I have a very different looking class than many other elementary teachers and having the right tools to teach these kids has made all the difference. My class is made up of five different grade levels, so teaching math has become an art form for me. I have been so excited to receive the many different math manipulatives because it has made this task much more doable and fun for myself, as well as the students. In my class, I have to take each grade math lesson at a time. As I finish one grade lesson, I move onto another grade until all the students are working on completing their lesson for the day. While the students are working on their lesson, I navigate around the room helping students as they work to finish their task. I have been loving the abacus's that you provided the class. My 1st grade – 3rd grade students have benefited from their use. For my first grade students, I have shown them how to use it when doing addition or subtraction problems. The 2nd and 3rd grade students are using the abacus to help them learn and understand grouping methods and multiplication patterns. Both of these groups are benefiting from this visual tool and using it to help them figure out a problem. My kindergarteners are loving the 2D and 3D shapes that were gifted to our class. Like many other learners, visual aids that can be picked up and handled offer the learner another way to engage the brain through a kinetic learning lesson. My kindergarteners are thriving with the aid of these shapes. They are grasping the lessons at a quicker rate and able to move onto other concepts. My older students in the 3rd and 4th grade level are also benefiting from the liquid measurement kit they received from your generous donors. These students were able to complete a fun hands on learning lesson where they had to first estimate how much a container could hold and then they had to proceed to fill each container up and keep track of the liters or milliliters to show the true capacity of each container. These tools have given my students something tangible to hold and show them real world items that they use everyday and how to use them. As in any class, I have fast learners and slow learners. Some of my students finish their lesson quickly and need something to do to occupy their time and not be disruptive to the rest of the class. I have been having my fast learners practice memorizing their multiplication facts. I have been able to make this a fun activity thanks to your donations of the electronic multiplication game for my individual students and the multiplication board game for multiple students to play together. The students have been enjoying the games and look forward to using them after their math lessons. My class received many other amazing math manipulatives that we have not gotten to use yet, but I look forward to using them in our future math lessons this year. I really can't thank you enough for making math fun in my class and helping the kids understand math.","fullyFundedDate":1726425646570,"projectUrl":"project/math-manipulatives-make-learning-fun/8781673/","projectTitle":"Math Manipulatives Make Learning Fun!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Howe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9749643"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_78557","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":17,"numTeachers":2,"percentFrplEligible":71,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":90,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":0,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"8.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":null,"schoolId":78557,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Trego Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Trego Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/trego-school-district-53/trego-elementary-school/78557"}
