Thanks to your support, our shelves are now stocked with exciting new reading materials that are already making a visible difference in our learning environment.\r\n\r\nThe new additions, especially the Spanish language magazines, are truly indispensable for our students, particularly our second language learners. You perfectly captured why these resources are so essential: they are rich with vibrant graphics and photos that provide critical visual aids. This scaffolding helps learners connect the text to real-world concepts, making complex passages accessible and significantly boosting their reading comprehension.\r\n\r\nThis is more than just a collection of magazines; it's a toolkit for engagement.\r\n\r\nBy offering magazines on diverse, high-interest topics, you've given every student the opportunity to find something that genuinely interests them, which is the first step toward becoming a lifelong reader. Furthermore, these shared texts encourage invaluable classroom interactions where students feel confident enough to share their understanding and discoveries with their peers.\r\n\r\nThank you for recognizing the powerful connection between representation, visual support, and literacy success. These resources have transformed our learning space into a more comfortable, welcoming, and focused environment. The flexible seating allows students to choose where they learn best, while the new carpet has created a cozy spot for center work and reading time. The calm corner material has been especially meaningful—it gives students a safe and peaceful space to take a break, reflect, and return to learning ready to focus.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new setup, they thought it was Christmas that couldn't believe at the big boxes we were receiving. They immediately started exploring the new seats and talked about how nice it felt to have a classroom that's both fun and relaxing. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue helping students build independence by using the calm corner as a self-regulation tool and using the carpet area for more collaborative activities and discussions. The story opened the door to discussions about identity, names, and the importance of honoring who we are—topics that deeply resonated with our bilingual learners. Through guided reading and discussion, students practiced key literacy skills such as making inferences, analyzing character motivations, and identifying themes, while also developing empathy and cultural awareness. Because the book is available in Spanish, students were able to access the text in their home language, which allowed them to engage more deeply and make meaningful personal connections.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is an interactive and communal experience. We read together in small groups, annotate in the margins, and use discussion circles to share ideas. With Me Llamo María Isabel, students were eager to share stories about their own names—why they were chosen, how they are pronounced, and what they mean to them and their families. This not only built comprehension skills but also strengthened our classroom community. One student, who had been shy about speaking up during class, proudly shared the history behind her name after reading the book and has since shown more confidence in participating in discussions. Another student, who had recently moved from another country, connected deeply with María Isabel's experience and expressed that it felt \"like the author was writing about me.\"\r\n\r\nThe addition of this book has done more than just enhance literacy—it has given our students a mirror to see themselves and a window to better understand each other. It has sparked joy, curiosity, and pride in their identities, making reading not just an academic activity, but a deeply personal one.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAsk ChatGPT","fullyFundedDate":1723659578182,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-identity-in-my-name-is-mara-i/8631307/","projectTitle":"Exploring Identity in My Name Is María Isabel","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chapa Mills","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8992847_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y241&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683765768242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-chapamills"},{"teacherId":10006436,"projectId":9285210,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom has been transformed into a more engaging and organized learning space! Our phonics books and number lines have given students the tools they need to build strong foundational skills, and the cleaning supplies helped us maintain a fresh, welcoming environment for learning.\r\n\r\nThe resources from Teachers Pay Teachers allowed me to customize lessons for my English language learners and beginner readers. The books came in many packages so the students were excited to have so many packages to open and were even more excited to find out what books we received. Thank you for the excitement you brought into their lives.\r\n\r\nWe are using a lot of the books for our read aloud and the students have been excited and engaged during reading. I can see the difference between having the book that we can pause, and interact better with compared to a read aloud video. A lot of the chosen books we received also encourage creative writing and they have made a lot of cute and fun stories in response to our read aloud.\r\n\r\nStudents are also choosing to read the books during their center time. I see students reading in our library and at their tables. This has been really exciting to see because reading can be challenge for a lot of kids and that will sometimes make them not want pick up a book. However, the books we received, especially the \"how to catch\" books have been very popular among the kids. I am really proud of them for practicing their readings skills and I am really thankful to you for providing books that engage them. thank you for that support. \r\n\r\nI am also so thankful for your donation that helped bring in the SEL and cultural books. While academics is important, as teachers we are also teaching them how to be kind, caring and accepting people. These books allow them to explore other cultures and they are so excited when they see their cultures represented too. I have many Muslim students who loves the new stories that reflect their culture.\r\n\r\nThank you for your donation of these books. They were so excited about all the tools and manipulatives that they received. It honestly was so amazing to see the excitement and love for math. Having these hands-on materials created that excitement and I want to thank you for sending the tools to our classroom. \r\n\r\nWe are using the tools and manipulatives throughout our different units. The hundred charts and the number lines are used daily to practice their counting, addition and subtraction skills. The coin jars were used to practice sorting coins based on their properties. Now that the money unit is finished, we have added the coin jars into our calendar so we can count the number of days in school with coins. The shapes and pattern block designs were looked at because they were so excited to see them, but we haven't officially worked with them yet. Our shapes unit is coming up in March and I am so excited to have enough solid shapes for students to actually see the number of sides, faces, and corners of a solid shape. I also know they will love the pattern block design as a center game during our shapes unit!\r\n\r\nThank you for your donation. I often see that math isn't a favorite subject because kids feel unsure or lack confidence in this subject. I want to help my students feel confident and successful. Having these manipulatives give them a concrete and physical tool to see and hold. It helps their brain make sense of all the new things they are learning. I really believe that it builds their confidence when they know they have a support tool. Thank you for donating these tool to us!
