With the donation, students were exposed to novels of different genres that excited them. I heard from several students how excited they were to find the books they had been searching for in my classroom library. \r\nSince receiving the materials, I have noticed a considerable increase in the number of novels checked out from my classroom library. The novels donated to me were ones that students had expressed interest in reading or books similar to the ones they enjoyed. Frequently, when I check the sign-out and sign-in sheet for my classroom library, the novels are checked out. Many students are interested in the same books, which creates even more excitement when they can finally start reading the book they have been waiting for. Students have been finishing their novels much faster since they are novels they are interested in. Frequently, students go to the classroom library and find the next book in a series or from their favorite author that they can read, thanks to the generous donations. \r\nEach quarter, students have an AR goal that they try to meet. They can achieve this by reading novels with different point values and taking a comprehension quiz. Over the few months I have had the new novels in my classroom, more students have achieved their AR goals. It is exciting to see students finishing more books, understanding the content, and enjoying what they are reading. Through the donation of novels, students have been exploring different genres they would not usually be interested in. Some of the most popular genres are sports, historical fiction, and fantasy. \r\nNot only did the novels help students explore more options inside the classroom, they also offered students the opportunity to read some of the same books with their friends. Some of the books I received had multiple copies, which students could read with their friends and discuss the novel's content. The book donations also helped offer students more options inside the classroom that can be used for their novel choices during our Holocaust unit of study. \r\nThanks to the generous donations, my students have been so excited to explore the different options they now have in my classroom. It has been very rewarding to see students become more invested in their reading and more excited to choose a new book.","fullyFundedDate":1727968864293,"projectUrl":"project/interest-book-reading-materials/8846884/","projectTitle":"Interest Book Reading Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robertson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9783076"},{"teacherId":9760961,"projectId":8800637,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous donation to my classroom. My students have loved reading We Dream of Space. It was a book that held their interest. It had a unique story line. The book was set in the 1980's so it was fun for me, but my kids could relate to what the characters were experiencing. Plus the kids thought it was fun to explore what was popular entertainment and music from the 1980s as well. \r\n\r\nThank you for providing this experience for us. Many students have a hard time finding books that they can relate to. This put books in their hands that held the interest of all of my students.\r\n\r\nThe students were modeled to about how they can engage with a book. They were held accountable to march through and complete a good sized novel. They now have increased confidence in their abilities the next time they go to pick out a book.","fullyFundedDate":1726936043681,"projectUrl":"project/middle-school-language-arts/8800791/","projectTitle":"Middle School Language Arts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. MacDonald","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9761151"},{"teacherId":9721619,"projectId":8726989,"letterContent":"On behalf of my students and myself, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation towards my project, \"Making Middle School ELA Lit.\" Your contribution of high-interest, lower-level reading materials and organizational supplies for our middle school ELA classroom has made a significant impact, and I am truly appreciative of your thoughtfulness.\r\n\r\nThe new reading materials are already making a difference in our classroom. My students are engaged and excited to explore the articles and task cards and expand their love of reading. Your contribution not only helps enhance their academic experience, but it also fosters a sense of ownership and self-awareness as they build specific reading skills. They are thrilled with the variety of genres and topics that now fill our classroom!\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the organizational supplies you provided have helped create a more structured and efficient learning environment. With better organization, my students are able to focus more on their work, and it has been wonderful to see them taking greater ownership of their materials. The classroom is now more organized and better equipped for their growth and success.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, we are better able to support student learning and foster a positive and engaging educational experience. Over the past few months in my classroom, my students have been taking part in reading novels that are part of book clubs. Each week, students read portions of their books and took notes on the characters, setting, plot, theme, and interesting details to come to their book club meetings prepared for meaningful discussions.\r\n\tTo begin exploring the literature, students participated in a book tasting. Students circulated the classroom and spent a few minutes with each of the novels, reading the back cover information as well as some of the first few pages of the book. After they had the opportunity to get a feel for each of the novels that they could read for their book clubs, they chose their favorite book that they interacted with to be the one they would be reading during this time. From the start, when students could choose the novel that interested them the most, I could already observe their excitement to explore their new reading materials. \r\n\tEach day over several months, students came together for twenty minutes to read through their novels and gather notes for their book club meetings. As the weeks progressed the students became more excited for each of their meetings to share what they had discovered in their novels. The students kept track of the characters, their character traits, the plot, the setting, and the theme to discuss when it was time to dive into their novels with their peers. As they read, they also expanded their vocabulary. Whenever a student would come across a word they did not recognize or know the meaning of, they would first use their context clues to try to understand the word. Once they had an idea of what the definition of the word might be, they consulted their resources to find the meaning of the word. \r\n\tToward the end of this project, students were so invested in their novels that their conversations would continue outside of the classroom. I observed several students making predictions about how their stories would end while talking with their peers outside of the classroom. At the beginning of their novels, each student predicted how they thought their book would end. Some students were shocked by the ending of their books, and others were pleasantly surprised to see that their predictions were mostly correct. Most of the books I received for my book club novels had sequels, which students were lined up to read after finishing their first novel. Observing the students interacting with their novels through meaningful conversations with their peers was truly rewarding. They surpassed my expectations of diving deeper into their novels, and some even began analyzing their characters' motivations. I plan to continue the use of the book club novels with students forming new groups to read the other options that they have.","fullyFundedDate":1727663972517,"projectUrl":"project/book-club-reading-materials/8837315/","projectTitle":"Book Club Reading Materials","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robertson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9783076"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_94853","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":119,"numTeachers":8,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":94853,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Townsend Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Townsend Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/montana/townsend-school-district-1/towsend-middle-school/94853"}
