My preschool age son got out a container of dinosaurs to play with and immediately he was surrounded by older students wanting to play with him! Watching this I was reminded that while these students where \"older\" they are still young and pretend play is still so much fun. \r\nFrom there I made it a goal to provide more ways to play that where open ended and allowed students to use their imaginations. As I was choosing things like the animal toys and magna tiles I realized some of my students enjoy mind puzzles so that's when I added the mazes, kanoodles, and puzzles.\r\nSince adding these things to the classroom it has been a game changer. Choice time is now filled with kids laughing and playing together instead of zoned into a chromebook. It was like Christmas in the classroom getting to open up the boxes of books as they came in. Many of my students come from homes where buying new books is not something they can do. Getting to go through the process of choosing the books they wanted and then seeing them arrive was huge for many students who have never gotten that experience.\r\nReading is something I love so as a teacher its a love I want to grow in my students as well. For many students, if they are struggling readers, it can be hard to find and nurture their love of reading. By giving students the choice and access to books they enjoy it encourages them to read for the joy of reading. All my training up to this point has been in a homeroom classroom, and the thought of being the PE teacher was both exciting and scary. As part of my job as a teacher, here at the Tongass School of Arts & Sciences, I had to offer some kind of \"Enrichment\" class every Friday for a group of students. Before the school year started, I really thought about what I could do that would be both really fun for the students and something that I, as a first-year PE teacher, would feel good about being able to teach. Well, the only choice for me, and what popped into my head right away, was volleyball! \r\n\r\nThanks to you and your generosity, I was able to make a volleyball enrichment program possible within a few short weeks of when I had the idea and came on to Donor's Choose with a hope, and when I got the nets set up and had my first volleyball players walk in the gym door. The students have loved playing volleyball, and the new nets and volleyballs have made that possible. Volleyball is the ultimate team sport, but it does take some time to get the hang of, making it a great choice for an enrichment class. These students worked hard to improve their skills and have learned to work together over the last couple of months. They are getting exercise, learning to love physical activity, making friendships, and learning a new skill, which hopefully they will continue on with in middle school and high school. On behalf of myself and my students, thank you so much for making this all possible.","fullyFundedDate":1756146516518,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-rainforest-kids-learn-the-indoor/9613886/","projectTitle":"Help My Rainforest Kids Learn the Indoor Sport of Volleyball!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kendra","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10183510_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755392772926","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10183510"},{"teacherId":9623902,"projectId":9433497,"letterContent":"Our classroom is glowing, thanks to your generous support! The adorable, soft-glow animal lights you funded have brought so much joy, comfort, and calm to our learning environment. These lights have truly transformed our classroom atmosphere. They create a peaceful space that supports learning, emotional regulation, and collaboration.\r\nTheir portability makes them even more special. Students love moving them around to different flexible seating areas, whether they're reading in a corner, working on group projects, or reflecting quietly.
