The carpet not only brightened up our space, but it attracted students to the reading corner. The students ask about the continents on the carpet all the time. They take the opportunity to either stand on it or sit for a while, and browse the books on the shelf. \r\n\r\nThe journals and pencils are also a wonderful addition to our classroom space. Some students do not enjoy writing. However, having their own journals they can write and draw in helps them enjoy it a little more.\r\n\r\nThe mobile whiteboard is a lifesaver! I use the whiteboard during instruction daily. \r\nI post learning objectives, new vocabulary, and even draw pictures to help students grasp a new concept. It's wonderful to teach from any space in the classroom, and bring the large board and markers along. There are certain activities that are a given and year to year popular at Toby, that would be basketball and football; however, we have other areas of great interest too! \r\n\r\nThis area is all about Fitness, running, jumping and movement as a lifestyle as I try to instill good exercise habits for our teens. The new Slam/ medicine balls were a huge hit and several students have taken great interest in using them often. Not all students are created equal, nor do they all prefer \"ball sports\" and competing to win at something and have more points/ goals/runs. Personal exercise and a fitness is a goal I aim to continue to introduce and support as being physically fit can \"look\" different to many. What better time to introduce than the middle school years!!\r\n\r\nThe students are grateful and use the items daily and they are happy. We will continue to grow and develop our students physically, mentally and socially.
