This project funded clear bins that allowed us to begin genrefying our collection, turning the library into an inviting, organized, and student-friendly space where books are easier to discover and reading feels like an adventure. For many of my students, who are still developing their reading identities, having the library arranged in this way has unlocked new opportunities to connect with stories they might not have chosen otherwise.\r\n\r\nWhen the bins first arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students crowded around as I began to label and sort books into genres—fantasy, mystery, graphic novels, nonfiction, poetry, and more. Instead of wandering aimlessly or asking, \"Where are the good books?\" students now head directly to the sections that spark their curiosity. One student who typically stuck only to graphic novels suddenly discovered a love for mysteries when he spotted a bin full of titles with intriguing covers. Another, who had always said, \"I don't like reading,\" lit up when she found a nonfiction bin dedicated to animals. These simple changes in organization have opened new doors for exploration.\r\n\r\nThe clear bins have also supported specific classroom projects. During a recent book-tasting event, students rotated through different genre bins to \"sample\" books in areas they hadn't explored before. With the books displayed visibly and attractively, students were far more willing to pick up titles outside their comfort zone. Many ended the event by checking out books from new genres, excited to take them home and continue reading. The bins made this process seamless, allowing us to highlight the variety in our collection in a way that was fun and inviting.\r\n\r\nThe impact on learning has been noticeable. Students are building independence as they learn to navigate the library more confidently, making choices that reflect their personal interests and reading levels. They are also broadening their reading habits, discovering that they don't have to limit themselves to one type of book. This variety strengthens comprehension skills, exposes them to different writing styles, and encourages deeper discussions during library lessons and book clubs. Instead of focusing on the stress of \"finding the right book,\" students now have the tools to browse successfully, which has made reading time calmer, more joyful, and more productive.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps are to continue expanding our genrefication process. The bins funded through this project laid the foundation for a library that is more engaging and accessible, but we plan to keep building on this work. Students are already requesting additional genres—such as sports stories or adventure novels—and I am excited to keep refining our system to reflect their voices and interests. I can't wait to get more bins so that we can expand even further, giving every child a chance to see their favorite kinds of stories highlighted and easy to find.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has done more than provide storage bins—it has given my students the gift of discovery. With the library now organized in a way that truly speaks to them, children who once felt overwhelmed by too many choices are empowered to find books that excite and inspire. On behalf of every curious reader who now has an easier path to unlocking new worlds, thank you for making this transformation possible.","fullyFundedDate":1755791356944,"projectUrl":"project/story-haven-unlocking-worlds-for-curiou/9619606/","projectTitle":"Story Haven: Unlocking Worlds for Curious Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chinnici","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9082238_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742991486079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9082238"},{"teacherId":9082238,"projectId":9384496,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our students are beginning their school days with fuller stomachs, brighter smiles, and stronger focus. \"Fueling Bright Days: Breakfast Bars & Snacks\" has given us the resources to meet one of the most basic—but critical—needs of our children: the need for nourishment. In a Title I school where many families struggle with food insecurity, this project has become a daily lifeline, ensuring that students don't have to start their day hungry or distracted. Instead, they now enter the classroom ready to learn, engage, and succeed.\r\n\r\nWhen the first boxes of breakfast bars and snacks arrived, the excitement was immediate. Students' eyes lit up at the sight of individually wrapped items they could grab quickly and discreetly. One student asked shyly, \"Are these really for us?\" That moment captured just how important this project is—not only does it provide food, but it also reassures children that they are cared for. The relief of knowing that there will always be something to eat when hunger strikes has created a calmer, more focused environment.\r\n\r\nThe impact on learning has been clear. Before this project, many students came into the library sluggish, irritable, or unable to concentrate because they had not eaten breakfast. Now, with snacks available, I see a difference in their energy and participation. A child who once struggled to stay awake during morning lessons now eagerly raises her hand to answer questions after grabbing a granola bar. Another student who often asked to visit the nurse because of stomachaches now starts the day with a breakfast bar and spends the morning engaged in reading activities. These are small changes that add up to major improvements in focus, behavior, and academic success.\r\n\r\nWe've also been able to incorporate these resources into specific learning moments. During library lessons, for example, I often use snack breaks as opportunities to practice routines like following directions, cleaning up responsibly, and practicing gratitude. Students understand that these snacks are a privilege made possible by donors who believe in them, and many have expressed their thanks by writing notes and sharing drawings that show their appreciation. In this way, the snacks are not only fueling their bodies but also teaching important social-emotional lessons about kindness and generosity.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps are to continue integrating these resources into daily routines that support learning and growth. Having food available means we can plan longer, more engaging literacy and STEM activities without worrying about students being distracted by hunger. It also means we can respond immediately when a child's needs surface—whether that's a mid-morning boost before a math test or an afternoon snack to carry them through dismissal. This consistency builds trust and stability, both of which are essential for student success.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has given us more than breakfast bars and snacks. You have given my students dignity, energy, and the ability to focus on their education instead of their hunger. On behalf of every child who starts the day with a brighter outlook because of this project, thank you. You've not only fueled their days—you've fueled their potential, their confidence, and their dreams.","fullyFundedDate":1749215594261,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-bright-days-breakfast-bars-sn/9384496/","projectTitle":"Fueling Bright Days: Breakfast Bars & Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Chinnici","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9082238_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742991486079","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9082238"},{"teacherId":9783291,"projectId":8838006,"letterContent":"Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your generosity and belief in Thunderbolt Academy students. When the materials arrived, the excitement in the room was electric. Many of our students often struggle with confidence and self-worth, so knowing that people—strangers—chose to support their learning was deeply meaningful. Your donation didn't just provide clay and tools; it sent a powerful message: you matter, and people care about you.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, students engaged in hands-on, creative projects that brought history and identity to life. During our unit on Mesopotamia, they crafted clay slabs and inscribed their names and messages in cuneiform, just like ancient scribes. For Black History Month, students researched influential Black individuals and sculpted meaningful representations—everything from miniature air conditioners to pool tables to expressive tissue boxes—that reflected the contributions and personalities of their chosen figures.\r\n\r\nWe concluded our Ancient Greece unit by designing and painting Minoan-style pottery, and each student brought their unique perspective and energy to the task.
