Teaching TK through fourth grades, having an array of manipulatives along with a variety of methodologies, positively impacts all of my students. \r\n\r\nI have had younger students utilizing the number bonds and base 10 sets for everything from number identification through triple digit anddition and subtraction (with carrying/borrowing). The fraction and decimal circles and tiles are wonderful visuals for teaching my students quantities, fractions, and even division. We were able to do this project for over 120 students across two different schools. It's important that the students see artists who look like them, and make art with their communities in mind. \r\n\r\nThis Bisa Butler project allowed us to learn about a famous Black portrait artist who makes art using patterns, textures, and colors inspired by her own African ancestry. The students learned about many elements of art and techniques like contrasting colors, collage making, contour lines, layering, and back painting a transparency.
