Students LOVE using the play doh both during indoor recess (and boy has it been cold!) as well as during our SEL activities. We use the play doh to add features to faces printed on cards with situations in the background to help explore emotions and feelings.\r\n The bean bag chair has also been a huge hit. Having a second chair has allowed more students to cuddle up with a good book, or find a safe and comfortable space in the calming corner in which to take some deep breaths and regroup.\r\n Finally, the vacuum has allowed me to keep our meeting mats clean. The students love taking turns vacuuming and taking ownership of keeping our classroom as a fun, safe, and clean learning and living space.\r\n Thank you again for your incredible generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1765401489716,"projectUrl":"project/calm-and-clean/9862495/","projectTitle":"Calm and Clean","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Rice","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp671208_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1664067186237","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ericarice"},{"teacherId":9890965,"projectId":9045983,"letterContent":"Here is an update on how your donation is making a difference.\r\nThe manipulatives are being used to teach my kindergarteners (and a few first graders) phonemic awareness, phonics and reading fluency.\r\nI started with the hand2mind kit. The 3 students in the group were so inquisitive when they saw the different colored bags. I let them take out all the items and I showed them how to use each one. I started a phonemic awareness activity of segmenting sounds with the cards and the Pop-its. They loved it! The next time I pulled that group the first thing they asked was if they were going to use the bags again.\r\nI used the sight word game with my kindergarten reading groups to \"go fish\" for sight words. It was amazing how attentive they were and focused. It taught ME a lot about the next steps in my teaching after the game was over. \r\nThe Versitiles were used with a group of 2 ELL students who are just learning how to read English in first grade. They were so eager to use the tiles to read and match words and turn it around to self check their work.\r\nThank you again for your generous contribution. It has created a more engaging and effective learning environment for my kiddos to grow and succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1743096089400,"projectUrl":"project/motivational-manipulatives-to-learn-phon/9045983/","projectTitle":"Motivational Manipulatives to Learn Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, and Fluency","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bivona-Rocco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9890965_orig.jpg?crop=553,554,x0,y44&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736512826336","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9890965"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_23312","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":344,"numTeachers":33,"percentFrplEligible":83,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":89,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.7,"schoolId":23312,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas A Edison Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Thomas A Edison Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/port-chester-rye-union-free-school-district/thomas-a-edison-elementary-school/23312"}
