Through engaging stories and relatable characters, students are learning how to identify and name their emotions, practice empathy, navigate friendships, and develop strategies for problem-solving and self-regulation. These books open the door for meaningful conversations about kindness, perseverance, managing big feelings, and making responsible choices in everyday situations.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is interactive and student-centered. We use these books during whole-group read-alouds, small-group discussions, and independent reading time. Students are encouraged to pause, reflect, and share their thoughts, making connections between the stories and their own experiences. This approach helps deepen comprehension while also reinforcing social-emotional skills in a safe and supportive environment.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially drawn to the new books, particularly those who benefit from visual storytelling and concrete examples of emotions and social situations. Some students enjoy pointing out moments when characters feel the same way they do, while others are excited to suggest solutions or coping strategies they've learned from the stories. Overall, the books have sparked enthusiasm, thoughtful discussions, and a stronger sense of community within the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1760793291028,"projectUrl":"project/all-leaders-are-readers/9832515/","projectTitle":"All Leaders are Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hendrey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6706420_orig.jpg?crop=1000,1000,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1594757011546","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6706420"},{"teacherId":10043428,"projectId":9574908,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom. Because of your generosity, my occupational therapy room is now filled with engaging, meaningful tools that are already making a difference for the elementary school students I serve in our inner-city school.\r\n\r\nThe large tunnel has been a fun way for students to build body awareness and coordination, while the magnet letter writing set has turned handwriting practice into an exciting, hands-on activity. The sensory fidget set, wiggle stool, and balance ball seat help students stay focused and calm, allowing them to learn in ways that best meet their individual needs. Our new games and emotional regulation activities are promoting cooperation and self-awareness, and the social-emotional learning book has become a favorite resource for meaningful discussions. The Model Magic has brought creativity and joy to our sessions, giving students a fun outlet for self-expression.\r\n\r\nThese materials have transformed my therapy space into a place where students can move, explore, and grow — not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Your generosity will continue to support these students for years to come, helping them build confidence, self-regulation skills, and a love for learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in my students and the power of education. Thanks to all of your generous donations, I was able to set up my space at the start of the school year. The students were not only welcomed back with a warm smile, but a warm space. They immediately noticed the decor changes, such as the bean bag chair, new rug, and craft cabinet (e.g., the color shelf unit). The students find comfort in the space, not just to be themselves, but to reset their emotions when needed. \r\nI feel so very lucky for the pretend play activities that were on the list (e.g., vet kit, play food, etc.). Originally, I had these in mind for some of my younger students, as it facilitates natural communication. I was pleasantly surprised to find out ALL of my students enjoy these activities, no matter the age! The kids are drawn to these activities and often ask to use them. We haven't even gotten to all of the games/activities that were on my donor list yet. I plan to sprinkle them throughout the year so your gift just keeps on giving!","fullyFundedDate":1747066149119,"projectUrl":"project/lets-talk-about-it-speech-language-the/9315868/","projectTitle":"Let's Talk About It: Speech-Language Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCarney","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9893496"},{"teacherId":9853847,"projectId":8992784,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our classroom now includes something truly special: a calm-down space that not only meets my students' needs but reflects their worth.\r\n\r\nWhen we first introduced the new chair, sensory tools, and calming items, the shift was immediate. Students who previously hesitated to use the space now approach it with confidence. One student, after sitting in the new chair with a sensory tool in hand, looked up and said softly, \"I feel like this was made for me.\"\r\n\r\nThis space has become a vital part of our classroom culture. It's where students pause, breathe, and reset. It's where they go to feel safe, to regulate overwhelming emotions, and to return to learning with a renewed sense of calm and focus. Whether it's a student quietly journaling, squeezing a stress ball, or simply taking a mindful moment, the message is clear: their well-being matters.\r\n\r\nThe impact is especially meaningful for my students of color, who are navigating challenges both in and outside the classroom. This space is more than just a corner—it's a daily affirmation that they are seen, supported, and deserving of care.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're incorporating mindfulness strategies and emotional regulation into our academic routines. Students are learning not only how to manage stress, but how to advocate for their own mental and emotional needs.
