This was by far, the most meaningful unit of study we experienced this year. \r\n The excitement began when we started receiving the boxes and unpacking supplies. The selection of books allowed my students to learn about the life cycle of chicks and how to care for them. Having varying levels allowed all my students access to the information no matter their reading level. The brooder was absolutely the best! The design allowed clear and easy observation of the chicks and my students especially enjoyed being able to hear the chicks \"cheep\" throughout the day and watch their silly antics! Often, we would just stop and listen to the sweet sounds coming from the brooder. \r\n The opportunity to raise chicks from eggs has had a profound impact on my students. It began the moment they entered the classroom and saw that three of the chicks had hatched earlier that morning and were stumbling around in the incubator, wet, tired, and weak. If that wasn't enough excitement, an hour later, one of my students said, \"Mrs. Green, there's a pip in the green egg and it's getting bigger!\" We all rushed over to the \"incubation station\" and witnessed the last chick hatch before our eyes. The excitement and joy in the room was palpable! Many students had tears in their eyes. From that moment on, the students took full responsibility for the chick's care. They ensured the waterer and feeder were always clean and full, that their bedding was changed daily, and that the chicks got their favorite snack: mealworms. \r\n This project not only had a positive impact on my class, but the entirety of our school. Classrooms were invited to visit our classroom to see the chicks and learn about the hatching process from my students. I was extremely impressed to see how confident and comfortable my students were when presenting information and answering questions from their peers. Following these visits, students from different classes would make daily visits before school and during their recess to see the chicks. My students beamed with pride that they were known as the \"chickenologists\" at school! \r\n This project offered a hands-on learning opportunity that exceeded my expectations. . My students learned not only the biology of chickens, but about patience, responsibility, and the importance of caring for living things. It is with your kindness and generosity that this was possible, and for that, I am deeply grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1736813706782,"projectUrl":"project/cheep-cheep-hatching-learning-adv/9048394/","projectTitle":"\"Cheep, Cheep!\" : Hatching Learning Adventures In Our Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Green","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9891694_orig.jpg?crop=1459,1459,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736636803600","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9891694"},{"teacherId":9939608,"projectId":9153332,"letterContent":"It was so exciting for the students to see what new prizes were received in the student store, thanks to you and Donor's Choose!
