Your cooking pots, spatulas and spoons have transformed our special education culinary class in tangible ways. My students are using the new resources to explore safe food handling and following multi-step recipes. One standout moment was when we prepared a pot of noodles: students were excited to cook using the pot and spatulas in stirring the noodles, practiced following a recipe card, and collaborated to present their bowls. The hands-on experience helped reinforce fine motor skills, sequencing, and teamwork, while also giving students a sense of pride in creating something they can share with the class.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the classroom lit up with excitement. Some students squealed with delight at the colorful tools, while others paused to examine each utensil with curiosity, The new resources gave them a tangible connection to the concepts we've been learning like kitchen safety, sanitation, and the importance of following steps. \r\n\r\nLooking ahead, the next steps involve a nutrition-focused lesson where students track a week of meals using the new cookware, discuss portion sizes, and practice budgeting a small grocery list. We'll also launch a \"recipe builder\" project where students adapt a simple recipe to meet individual dietary needs and preferences, documenting their process with photos and a short reflection. Your support has created a bridge between classroom instruction and real-world life skills, and we're excited to continue building independence, collaboration, and a joy of cooking for every student.","fullyFundedDate":1746894767570,"projectUrl":"project/empower-future-chefs-kitchen-tools-for/9271233/","projectTitle":"Empower Future Chefs: Kitchen Tools for Life Skills Success","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. C","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9736480"},{"teacherId":8362206,"projectId":9139113,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support through DonorsChoose, our special education classroom has been transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and entrepreneurship. With the Cricut Explore 3, my students have launched a successful card-making business, designing and producing custom greeting cards for various occasions. We've also expanded into creating personalized vinyl signs and school projects—most recently, we made a \"Riverview Farm Stand\" sign and custom vegetable labels and decals for the produce classrooms. Each project gives my students the chance to build fine motor skills, follow multi-step directions, and develop job-readiness skills like teamwork, responsibility, and time management. One unforgettable moment was when a student who typically struggles with confidence beamed with pride after completing a set of cards that were purchased by teachers during our pop up. It was a breakthrough that reminded us all how powerful hands-on learning can be.\r\n\r\nWhen the Cricut and supplies first arrived, the students were absolutely thrilled. They eagerly explored the machine, sorting through the tools and colorful materials with wide eyes and excited chatter. For many of them, this was their first experience with technology used for creative production, and they were instantly engaged. Looking ahead, we're working on a Mother's Day project where each student will design and craft a custom card and gift tag set. This is helping us practice not only our vocational skills but also empathy, language development, and self-expression. We are also planning to set up a small in-school \"storefront\" for students to showcase and sell their work, which will provide even more opportunities to learn about entrepreneurship, money management, and communication. Your contribution didn't just bring us materials—it opened doors to real-world experiences and lifelong skills. Thank you for being part of our journey.","fullyFundedDate":1742912797412,"projectUrl":"project/cricut-printing-business-in-neurodiverse/9139113/","projectTitle":"Cricut Printing Business in Neurodiverse Classroom!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8362206_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646862658564","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8362206"},{"teacherId":9894316,"projectId":9059759,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our high school culinary class for students with severe autism. Your donation of essential kitchen tools — including a blender, safety knives, hand mixer, and mixing bowls — has made a remarkable difference in our classroom. These tools not only support our students in learning valuable life skills, but also help create a sensory-friendly, hands-on environment where they can thrive. For many of our students, cooking is more than just a task — it's a pathway to independence, communication, and confidence. With your help, they are now blending smoothies, mixing batter, and safely preparing meals with enthusiasm and pride.\r\n\r\nThese experiences extend beyond academics; they nurture social skills, teamwork, and self-esteem. The adaptive tools you've provided make cooking accessible to every student, regardless of their motor or sensory challenges.
