One of our favorite projects so far has been using base-ten blocks to explore place value. We used the blocks to build numbers and then compared them to see which were bigger or smaller. The students loved physically manipulating the blocks to create the numbers, and it made abstract concepts like place value much easier to grasp.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new materials—bright, colorful base-ten blocks and measuring tools like rulers and balance scales—they were immediately excited. They couldn't wait to get started! Their faces lit up when they saw how they could use these tools to explore math in a hands-on way. It was a great way to turn a sometimes challenging subject into something fun and interactive.\r\n\r\nNext, we'll be using the materials to explore measurement. We're planning a hands-on activity where the students will measure different objects in the classroom, comparing lengths and weights, and even creating a mini \"measurement garden\" where they plant different seeds and track how long it takes for them to grow. They'll be using rulers, balance scales, and even measuring cups to measure ingredients for a small cooking project.\r\n\r\nThe hands-on nature of these activities has really helped my students connect math concepts to real-world experiences. The donors who contributed to this project have made such a difference in how my students approach learning—they're more excited, confident, and ready to tackle challenges with these new materials.","fullyFundedDate":1728415058340,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-critical-thinking/8626540/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Critical Thinking","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Meghan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/meghan-russo"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_121563","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":143,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":38,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":14,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":78.3,"schoolId":121563,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The Juniper School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The Juniper School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/durango-school-district-9-r/the-juniper-school/121563"}
