This year, the age requirements changed for students entering TK in California, and my students are younger than ever before. Students were suddenly entering school at age 3 and were used to napping, but we didn't have adequate places to allow them to get the rest they needed. I was also in desperate need of more tools (toys) for the students to use to strengthen their hand muscles for fine motor development. Previously, our playdough center was being used just once a week. Now, it is so popular we have it out everyday. We now have plenty of dough extruders and dough rollers for a very large group to all use them at once. They have so much fun pushing the dough through different shaped holes and rolling out all the interesting textures. One of my favorite parts is that these toys have also allowed them to use their imagination and to create fascinating new animals and objects out of PlayDough. They don't even realize how hard they are working to improve their finger strength for writing. We have also used the liquid droppers in so many fun ways that they are now experts on filling them with water and squeezing them out to melt our frozen animals or squirt into various objects on hot days. During our science unit on weather, the students squeezed water out of pompoms to mimic rain clouds. They also pretended to do the laundry and wring out the clothes in the lemon squeezers. These donations have helped us to practice math skills, science skills, and improve our fine motor development for our writing skills. We have definitely \"worked hard\" to grow and develop by \"playing hard.\" We've had so much fun that the campus supervisors have come from a few halls over on multiple occasions just to check out what was causing all the laughter and squeals of joy.","fullyFundedDate":1755700960717,"projectUrl":"project/work-hard-play-hard/9475360/","projectTitle":"Work Hard, Play Hard","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mura-Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4868458_orig.jpg?crop=432,432,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753123988577","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mura-smith"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_69562","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1083,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":22,"percentAsian":11,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":34,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.9,"schoolId":69562,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Temecula Preparatory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Temecula Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/temecula-valley-unified-school-district/temecula-preparatory-school/69562"}
