My students enjoy this book from year to year as it provides a story of children who have less than ideal home situations and are placed into a foster home together. It teaches them to have empathy for others who often have stories that no one at school know about. \r\nLikewise, the novel Four Perfect Pebbles is written by a survivor of the Holocaust. I have personally heard her speak twice. Students are drawn into the story by the true to life accounts of the terrible conditions the author survived as well as her triumphant later life. Year after year, Tamaroa Grade School students talk fondly of the novels they have read together in my classes. I'm happy to have new books to continue the tradition.","fullyFundedDate":1744206645423,"projectUrl":"project/class-sets-for-my-classy-students/9239116/","projectTitle":"Class Sets for My Classy Students!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Opp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5286540_orig.png?crop=868,868,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673314227310","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5286540"},{"teacherId":5286540,"projectId":8824764,"letterContent":"My students and I would like to express our appreciation for the new books purchased for our classroom. In addition to the books for independent reading such as the graphic novel of \"The Giver\", we are extremely excited to get a new class set of the S.E. Hinton novel \"That Was Then, This Is Now\". Our current class set of the novels have pages and covers falling out. However, with the new set of books, our current 8th graders got to take those old books home with them since next year's class will use the new set. The 8th graders usually like the novel as a comparison to Hinton's more recognized \"The Outsiders\" which they read in 7th grade. \r\nWithout your help, we would be taping in and looking for missing pages in September when we started \"That Was Then, This Is Now\".
