Because of this meaningful contribution, our elementary school classrooms are richer, more vibrant, and more reflective of the beautifully diverse world our students are growing up in.\r\n\r\nOur classrooms are now more diverse with books from multiple cultures and in different languages. Students can see themselves represented in stories that honor their heritage, language, and lived experiences. Just as importantly, they can step into the lives of others, exploring traditions, celebrations, challenges, and perspectives that may be different from their own. These books open doors to conversations that build empathy and understanding at an early age.\r\n\r\nThe age-appropriate selections ensure that every child, from our youngest readers to our more advanced learners, can access meaningful literature. Bilingual texts support emerging multilingual students by affirming their home languages as strengths rather than obstacles. They also invite English-dominant students to develop curiosity about new words, sounds, and cultural expressions. In this way, language becomes a bridge instead of a barrier.\r\n\r\nThese books help create an inclusive space where teachers can engage students with literature that challenges everyone to use an \"other people mindset.\" Through guided discussions, reflective writing, and shared reading experiences, students are encouraged to ask: What might this character be feeling? Why do they see the world this way? How is their experience similar to or different from mine? These questions nurture compassion, critical thinking, and global awareness, skills that are just as important as academic achievement.\r\n\r\nAs educators, we know that representation matters. When children see characters who look like them, speak like them, or share similar family traditions, they feel valued. When they encounter characters whose lives are different from their own, they learn respect and perspective. This balance strengthens not only literacy skills, but also the social and emotional fabric of our school community.\r\n\r\nWe are deeply grateful for this thoughtful donation. The impact will extend far beyond our library shelves. It will be felt in classroom discussions, in students' confidence as readers, in their growing empathy for others, and in the inclusive culture we continue to build together. Because of this generosity, our students are not only reading more, they are understanding more, connecting more, and becoming more compassionate citizens of the world.","fullyFundedDate":1760727761472,"projectUrl":"project/bilingual-books-make-learning-inclusive/9809939/","projectTitle":"Bilingual Books Make Learning Inclusive!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Barr","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4923366_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660228498544","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/drbarr"},{"teacherId":7488372,"projectId":9700571,"letterContent":"With these new, quality and durable beaded jump ropes, all the students at my elementary school, K-5th, have been able to learn how to jump rope. These manipulatives help students see how wholes are divided into equal parts, compare fractions accurately, and recognize equivalent fractions by lining up pieces side by side. By physically manipulating the tiles, students move beyond memorizing rules and begin to understand the meaning behind fraction size, relationships, and operations. This concrete experience is especially valuable as students transition to more abstract concepts like adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators.\r\nFraction pieces also increase engagement and build confidence, particularly for students who benefit from visual or kinesthetic learning. The interactive nature of the tools encourages participation, reduces anxiety around fractions, and supports diverse learners, including multilingual students and those with learning differences.
