As a speech therapist, I see every day how the right tools can transform a child's ability to communicate, connect, and grow in confidence. Because of you, our therapy space is now filled with brand new toys, engaging learning materials, specialized therapy resources, and essential school supplies that will directly support our students' progress.\r\n\r\nThese materials are so much more than items on a list — they are opportunities. The new toys will help spark imaginative play and language development. The learning and therapy materials will allow me to target speech and language goals in creative, motivating ways. And the school supplies ensure that our students have what they need to feel prepared and successful. Your generosity removes barriers and creates possibilities for children who are working so hard to find their voices.\r\n\r\nPlease know that your kindness will have a lasting impact. Every time a student says a new sound, forms a clearer sentence, or gains the confidence to express themselves, your support will be part of that success. They cheered, clapped, and from that day on asked me every single morning if the books had been delivered yet. When the boxes finally started arriving, the excitement was impossible to miss—students could hardly wait to see what was inside!\r\n\r\nNow, our classroom library is always buzzing. Students regularly choose to sit in the library, grab a book, and read whenever they have the chance. Some even ask to take books with them to recess and happily spend the entire time reading. Seeing students choose reading during their free time truly shows how meaningful these books are to them.\r\n\r\nThe donated books— Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Bad Guys, Dog Man, Minecraft, Wings of Fire graphic novels, Who Would Win?, and the Being Brave bundle (I Am Enough, Jabari Jumps, Stacey's Extraordinary Words)—have helped students grow as readers while also building confidence, empathy, and a genuine love for stories. Series books and graphic novels have been especially motivating, helping reluctant readers feel successful and excited to keep reading.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, reading in our classroom feels joyful and student-driven. These books have helped create a space where students are excited to read, proud to share books with one another, and eager to keep turning pages. Because of the large number of snacks donated, several students often helped the office staff and me carry boxes back to our classroom. Those moments were filled with smiles, teamwork, and anticipation, and seeing my students' joy as they unpacked snacks together truly showed how meaningful this support is.\r\n\r\nThese snacks are now a consistent and reliable part of our daily routine. With such an abundance and variety, I am able to meet the needs of all my students, including those with dietary restrictions. No student feels left out or worries about whether there is something safe for them to eat. As a teacher, my heart is so full knowing I no longer need to purchase snacks out of my own pocket and that my students' basic needs are being met.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, snack time has become a positive, stigma-free experience. Students who are unable to bring a snack from home now feel comfortable asking for one without embarrassment. Hunger is no longer a barrier to learning, and I've seen increased focus, stamina, and confidence during lessons, independent work, and assessments. These snacks have become a consistent part of our school day and are directly supporting students' ability to focus, learn, and feel secure in the classroom.\r\nFor many of my students, hunger is a daily barrier to learning. Since introducing these snacks, I have seen clear improvements in students' stamina, behavior, and overall engagement—especially during long instructional blocks, assessments, and afternoon lessons. Students are able to stay focused longer, complete their work more accurately, and participate with greater confidence. During recent testing sessions, students who often struggled with attention were noticeably calmer and able to work independently for extended periods of time.\r\nBecause of your support, my students are better prepared for the rigorous work ahead, including reading comprehension, problem-solving, and test preparation. We are currently completing our middle-of-the-year benchmark assessments on iPads, where questions are read aloud to support comprehension and accessibility. Earlier in the year, only a handful of students had headphones, which meant several tests were being read aloud at once. This made it difficult and stressful for many students who were trying their best to focus. Thanks to this project, every student now has their own set of headphones, allowing them to work in a quiet, focused environment and truly show what they know.\r\n\r\nWhat excited students most was realizing that everyone would receive their own personal headphones. When I first shared the news, many students thought only a few classmates would get them. Once they understood that a generous donor had provided headphones for the entire class, they were absolutely ecstatic! Some students who usually feel nervous during testing appeared much more relaxed and confident. Others who often struggle to stay focused were able to settle in and concentrate for longer periods of time. The headphones helped students block out distractions, listen carefully to directions, and work at their own pace. Because of this project, our classroom feels calmer and more equitable, and students feel supported, capable, and excited to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1767538757260,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-focused-ipad-learning/9975362/","projectTitle":"Supporting Focused iPad Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kemberling","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10392736_orig.jpg?crop=2651,2651,x0,y292&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1766864798088","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10392736"},{"teacherId":8435882,"projectId":9251832,"letterContent":"My students are so excited about our new books!
