As you know, the items for this project were all going to be placed into our classroom CORE Store - where students can earn tangible rewards for showing Civility, Order, Respect, and Excellence. A lot of times, students with disabilities struggle to receive verbal praise and feedback, so they are now able to receive this recognition in a tangible form. \r\n\r\nStudents earn CORE Bucks when they are seen demonstrating the four CORE expectations. They are able to save these up or spend them as often as they would like, so it has been incredible to have a variety of prizes and things they can save up for. At the end of each semester, students are invited to attend a CORE Carnival to spend any remaining Bucks they have saved to play games, buy prizes, and enjoy a dance party with their friends. Students start saving up right from the beginning of the year and get themselves little prizes throughout the semester.\r\n\r\nAgain, your support and generosity has meant so much to me and to these students. They are coming to school excited to learn, and to earn CORE Bucks while engaging in academic content and life skills lessons. My students were amazed by how quickly our plants grew. We were able to have fresh herbs grown before the end of the school year that students were able to explore with their senses. They were able to see the journey of a plant from seeds to flourishing plants. We specifically love the see through base so we could observe the roots system for each plant. \r\n\r\nWe were able to connect this to science standards about plant life, but also able to connect to real world experiences. We learned about traditional gardens, but also hydroponic gardens which make planting a possibility with just water and plant vitamins. I can't wait to continue using this all year long in my classroom and experiment with different types of seeds.
