I have had headphones for my students' Chromebooks for a few years now. With their daily use, you can imagine how they break. It was so wonderful to have a whole new class set of headphones at the start of this school year. We have been in school for over 3 weeks now, and I haven't heard one time, \"Mrs. Trujillo, my headphones don't work!\"\r\n\r\nAlso, we always have a Chief of the Week in my classroom. This student is chosen at random, and he/she gets to be the \"special\" student for the whole week. A few years ago, I added a short, rolling stool for this Chief to sit on during his/her week instead of sitting on the carpet like the rest of the students. That stool ripped and has needed to be replaced. Your donation allowed me to get a new one. This year, with your donation, I also added a new flexible seating chair for my Chief to use at his/her desk during the week instead of the regular classroom chair. These are all ways that you have helped make my students feel special. We just started a new school year, and this week, my students have been able to paint their first picture. They painted a basket of red, green, and yellow apples to put on the wall during the month of September. They were able to follow my step-by-step directions and created something beautiful.\r\n\r\nWe waited until the second week of school, so we had some routines in places before we painted. When I told the students it was a painting day, they were very excited. In fact, I was able to use painting as an incentive for good behavior which helped with classroom management. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generous donation, my students will be able to create a new \"masterpiece\" each month to help our classroom look beautiful and to allow students to feel like they had a part in it. I look forward to seeing how my students develop as artists as the year progresses. During the time my project was made, many of the donations we matched by anonymous contributors. \r\n My class received many amazing items that were funded through this project. Some of the items we have been been using often are: a spinning wheel which we use to make real and nonsense words to practice decoding, game buzzers to make our daily phonics practice more exciting, and magnetic letters to build words with during small group instruction. \r\n Every week I'm seeing improvement in my students' understanding of reading and writing.
