While many of us use technology at home for entertainment or work, in our classroom, it serves as a vital bridge to communication and independence.\r\n\r\nIn a school setting, technology isn't just a screen; it's a voice. The iPad cases and laminating pouches you provided might seem like simple protection, but they are actually \"armor\" for our most essential learning tools. Because these items are now durable and spill-proof, my students can take their communication apps and visual schedules anywhere they go. This consistency is where true learning happens.\r\n\r\nThe absolute \"star\" of this project has been the voice switch buttons. My students were beyond excited to realize that with one simple press, they could make their needs known or participate in a group story. There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a child realizes they have the power to change their environment just by \"speaking\" through a device.\r\n\r\nI have one student in particular who has always been very quiet and hesitant to engage with peers. Since we introduced the voice output buttons and the mobile \"First/Then\" schedules (held together by your carabiner clips and rings), his confidence has soared. Having a predictable, visual routine clipped right to his side has reduced his anxiety significantly. For the first time, he is using his voice button to greet his classmates in the morning with a huge smile.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has provided the structure, protection, and \"voice\" these incredible learners need to succeed every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1769797382321,"projectUrl":"project/tiny-tools-for-big-steps-building-indep/9925492/","projectTitle":"Tiny Tools for Big Steps: Building Independence in Early Childhood","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Pettis","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10361860_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764112960125","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10361860"},{"teacherId":10361857,"projectId":9925473,"letterContent":"The Big Reveal\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived, the excitement was palpable! My students were immediately drawn to the variety of textures and colors. One of my students, who usually struggles with new transitions, spent ten quiet minutes exploring the different fidgets with a look of pure wonder. It wasn't just a delivery of toys; it was a delivery of possibilities.\r\n\r\nA Moment of Transformation\r\nWe've integrated these tools into our daily \"Circle Time,\" which used to be the most challenging part of our day.\r\n\r\nThe Weighted Lap Pad: One of my students who previously had a very difficult time staying seated now asks for his \"heavy friend\" (the lap pad) as soon as he sees the carpet squares. The grounding input allows him to sit comfortably, listen to stories, and participate in songs alongside his peers for the first time.\r\n\r\nThe Tactile Bin: We recently used the tactile bin for a \"Letter Hunt.\" Instead of a standard worksheet, students dug through soft kinetic sand and smooth stones to find hidden letters. This turned a potentially frustrating academic task into a joyful sensory exploration that built both fine motor skills and letter recognition.\r\n\r\nLooking Ahead\r\nOur next step is using these tools to master self-advocacy. We are teaching the students to identify when their \"engines are running too fast\" and to independently choose a calm-down tool or a fidget from our new sensory station. This shift from teacher-led regulation to student-led regulation is a massive milestone for their social-emotional development.\r\n\r\nThank you for seeing the potential in my students and for providing the tools they need to shine. You haven't just given us materials; you've given us a more inclusive, compassionate, and focused classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1765690157633,"projectUrl":"project/fidgets-fun-and-focus-engaging-our-sp/9925473/","projectTitle":"Fidgets, Fun, and Focus: Engaging Our Special Needs Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bowe","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10361857_orig.jpg?crop=1686,1686,x655,y983&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1764102841915","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10361857"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_37032","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":296,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":48,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":86,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":82.0,"schoolId":37032,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wisconsin/chippewa-falls-area-usd/southview-elementary-school/37032"}
