Being some of the lowest readers in the school, they don't enjoy the school's library books. They actually pretend to read library books to fit in as the reading levels are too hard. Suddenly they had chapter books on their level! Every student picked a book to read. I even noticed a few groups discussing their books with each other. For some students, this became their choice for what to do when finished with their class work.\r\n\r\nAnother purpose for the books was for novel studies. We read Bigfoot Crossing aloud as a class and completed reading comprehension activities with it. This was important because the \"big classes\" do book studies. Bigfoot Crossing was a perfect choice. Some students could read it independently, but all needed comprehension support. There was lots of discussion and students were very engaged throughout the study. We also completed graphic organizers to understand the characters better and follow the plot. I look forward to reading another novel with them this fall.","fullyFundedDate":1742333396794,"projectUrl":"project/let-them-read/8963995/","projectTitle":"Let Them Read","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Batman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6704579_orig.jpg?crop=467,467,x87,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566700256739","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6704579"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_3501","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":412,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":4,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":71.6,"schoolId":3501,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Southeastern Stokes Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Southeastern Stokes Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/stokes-county-school-district/southeastern-stokes-middle-school/3501"}
