For many of them, this was the first time they felt seen in literature or felt truly curious about what they were reading.\r\n\r\nIn terms of learning, this project helped us focus on building key literacy skills like making inferences, identifying theme, analyzing character development, and exploring author's purpose. Because students had a choice in what they read, they were more invested in the learning process, which made our classroom discussions richer and more meaningful. I've seen students who once hesitated to read now eagerly flipping pages and asking for more time to read in class. One student, in particular, who had never finished a chapter book before, proudly completed her novel and is now recommending it to others.
