One of my favorite moments was watching a group collaborate as \"surgery partners\" to check each other's work on the operating table.\r\n\r\nThey were thrilled! Many of them gasped, clapped, and immediately started putting on the doctor accessories. Several students said, \"We get to be real surgeons?!\" The excitement helped even my most hesitant readers jump into the activity with confidence.\r\n\r\nNext, students will begin applying their \"surgery skills\" to reading and writing activities. They'll be identifying Magic E words in stories, creating their own before-and-after word transformations, and completing \"post-op reports\" to explain how the silent e changes the vowel sound.
