Once they saw it was a graphic novel and learned the basic idea, they were intrigued. \r\n\r\nWe read the first chapter together and then they started reading on their own. We read in 15-minute chunks over several class periods. Students answered comprehension questions and did journals about how it related to their own experiences applying for college and financial aid.\r\n\r\nFirst generation college students said this book was very relatable, they wish they had an opportunity to read it as Juniors before the craziness of Senior year.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous donation. Having colored paper has been so beneficial this year.\r\n\r\nAlready, I have used the paper to create colorful \"Thank you\" letters for Counselor Appreciation week as well as a variety of certificates and signs for my classroom. For example, the Texas College Bridge Program is a big part of senior English because it is tied to an entirely separate credit for a course called Transitioning to College English. I made colored goal sheets to help kids keep track of their points. I also made certificates for when they were finished and a sign outside my classroom door to list the names of kids who were finished.\r\n\r\nHaving colored paper is an essential part of a high school classroom, and I'm thankful that you helped me purchase the necessary supplies. With the addition of drones like the DJI FPV and DJI Mini 4, students are not only learning the theoretical knowledge required to pass the FAA Part 107 exam but also gaining practical, real-world experience. This combination has sparked incredible enthusiasm, with students engaging deeply in lessons and gaining confidence in their ability to operate cutting-edge technology. \r\n\r\nThe impact extends beyond the classroom. Students are discovering potential career paths in industries such as photography, agriculture, and surveying—fields that are increasingly reliant on drone technology. Through their hands-on practice with drones, they are developing skills in precision, safety, and problem-solving that will serve them far into the future. Several students have even expressed interest in pursuing drone-related certifications and careers, something that may not have seemed accessible to them before. \r\n\r\nThis program has also fostered collaboration and creativity, with students working together to complete flight missions, troubleshoot challenges, and design innovative applications for drones. The excitement and motivation we see every day are a testament to how much this opportunity means to them. Your support has made all of this possible, and it's laying the foundation for future success for our aspiring drone pilots. It has created a dynamic and engaging environment where students are excited to participate and learn. Through e-sports, students are honing critical skills such as strategic thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication, all of which align with our core educational goals. The setup has also fostered collaboration and teamwork, as students work together to strategize and compete in games, mirroring the dynamics of real-world tech teams. \r\n\r\nBeyond academics, the e-sports station has become a powerful tool for inclusion and community building. Students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels are coming together, finding common ground through their shared interest in gaming. This has fostered a sense of belonging, boosted student confidence, and encouraged positive peer relationships. For some students, this station has been their first introduction to computer science and STEM, sparking newfound interest in technology-related career paths. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the e-sports setup has opened doors for discussions about career opportunities in the gaming industry, from software development to graphic design and live streaming. Students are not only having fun but also gaining exposure to real-world applications of technology, which is inspiring them to think about their futures. This project has enriched our classroom experience, making it a place where students can explore their passions, grow their skills, and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow.","fullyFundedDate":1727654409470,"projectUrl":"project/e-sport-and-coding-command-center/8831762/","projectTitle":"E-Sport and Coding Command Center","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Childs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8567769_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x288,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659579073860","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8567769"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_10200","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":3364,"numTeachers":206,"percentFrplEligible":79,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":25,"percentWhite":6,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":58,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":53.0,"schoolId":10200,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about South Grand Prairie High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"South Grand Prairie High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/grand-prairie-independent-school-district/south-grand-prairie-high-school/10200"}
