Once they saw it was a graphic novel and learned the basic idea, they were intrigued. \r\n\r\nWe read the first chapter together and then they started reading on their own. We read in 15-minute chunks over several class periods. Students answered comprehension questions and did journals about how it related to their own experiences applying for college and financial aid.\r\n\r\nFirst generation college students said this book was very relatable, they wish they had an opportunity to read it as Juniors before the craziness of Senior year.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generous donation. Having colored paper has been so beneficial this year.\r\n\r\nAlready, I have used the paper to create colorful \"Thank you\" letters for Counselor Appreciation week as well as a variety of certificates and signs for my classroom. For example, the Texas College Bridge Program is a big part of senior English because it is tied to an entirely separate credit for a course called Transitioning to College English. I made colored goal sheets to help kids keep track of their points. I also made certificates for when they were finished and a sign outside my classroom door to list the names of kids who were finished.\r\n\r\nHaving colored paper is an essential part of a high school classroom, and I'm thankful that you helped me purchase the necessary supplies.
