Students from kindergarten through 8th grade came together to take part in a shared creative experience that built confidence, teamwork, and pride. A cast of 45 students performed on stage, and all 400 students participated by singing during the play, making it a truly schoolwide effort where every child had a role.\r\n\r\nThe production was presented over two nights, with students performing in front of up to 2,000 audience members. For many students, this was their first time speaking, singing, or performing on a large stage. Stepping into the spotlight helped students overcome nerves, believe in themselves, and feel proud of what they accomplished together.\r\n\r\nThroughout the process, students learned important life skills such as working as a team, solving problems, staying committed, and supporting one another. Older students took on leadership roles and served as role models for younger performers, while younger students gained confidence by learning alongside their peers.\r\n\r\nThis project became more than a performance. It strengthened our school community, gave students a voice, and helped them discover their creativity and potential. The experience left students excited, confident, and inspired—lessons that will stay with them far beyond the stage.","fullyFundedDate":1759594796799,"projectUrl":"project/from-classroom-to-curtain-call-their/9781351/","projectTitle":"\"From Classroom to Curtain Call — Their Moment Awaits\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fort","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/327505"},{"teacherId":4474178,"projectId":9781477,"letterContent":"Your generous support has made a meaningful difference in our classroom. The new books have strengthened students' reading skills by supporting lessons in comprehension, vocabulary development, character analysis, and making inferences. Students are learning how to engage more deeply with texts by asking thoughtful questions, drawing conclusions from evidence, and making connections across stories. Having access to high-quality, engaging books has increased both confidence and motivation among readers at all levels.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is now a focused and enthusiastic time of day. Students independently select texts that match their interests and abilities, settle into reading spaces, and sustain attention for longer periods of time. Many students are eager to discuss their books with peers, share favorite passages, and recommend titles to one another. Several students who were previously hesitant readers are now showing noticeable growth in engagement and persistence.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and their learning. Your generosity has helped foster a classroom environment where reading is valued, enjoyable, and empowering. These books will continue to support student growth and a love of reading for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1759594346077,"projectUrl":"project/books-wanted-minds-waiting/9781477/","projectTitle":"Books Wanted, Minds Waiting!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cox","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4474178_orig.jpg?crop=376,376,x45,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759277471459","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4474178"},{"teacherId":10252536,"projectId":9704133,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for all of your kindness and supporting out Middle School activities to interact and enjoy their breaks through fun interactive games!!\r\n\r\nEach of you have donated towards students in an urban low socio economic area where many of the games and activities are new to them. \r\n\r\nOur leaders will be able to collaborate and maintain a peaceful and productive space that is filled with fun and engagement! I have had so many of them get excited about the new books, with several remarking that they had been dying to read them or that they don't normally like reading, but that these books connect with them. Another student mentioned that he has been having trouble selecting from among \"so many cool books.\" \r\n\r\nI love hearing comments like that from my students, and I love the quiet, excited hush of silent reading when students have books that excite them. That's the environment that you're bringing to my classroom. \r\n\r\nWhen the books arrived, I had a group of students in my room who are rather reading resistant. They jumped on the boxes, fanning out the books and showing them off to others. Because of your donations, I was able to run a \"Starbooks\" book tasting with my students, after which all of my students were able to submit 5 books they wanted to read and choose their own book. There was something for everyone, and student engagement with reading has never been higher. All my students are quiet during silent reading, and they talk excitedly about their chosen text during book groups. \r\n\r\nFor many, this is the first time they've read a book of choice, not one assigned to them, in a long time. I love watching their excitement grow and hearing them ask for sequels and where they can buy their own copies of their books. The students are getting each other excited, too. Many students are reading ahead and encouraging their group mates to do so. Some who read their books are rereading and discussing with their groups the new things they've noticed on the reread. My groups that started with graphic novels have enthusiastically moved on to chapter books. Best of all, when they did so, they deliberated over their choices together, sampling their books and seriously discussing the pros and cons. \r\n\r\nI am so proud of my students and I am grateful to you for making this possible.","fullyFundedDate":1739368337830,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-buds-help-my-students-read-in/9015101/","projectTitle":"Books and Buds: Help my Students Read in Book Groups","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Burley Hill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6733751_orig.jpg?crop=2208,2208,x0,y434&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1736812366533","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6733751"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96949","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":449,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":84,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":13,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":72,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.2,"schoolId":96949,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Soar Charter Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Soar Charter Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-bernardino-city-unified-school-district/soar-charter-academy/96949"}
