This year students were able to read the original text and the graphic novel in order to enhance their understanding by combining Kafka's work with the artistry provided by the graphic novel. Students were able to do a lot of comparing and contrasting of the two texts and deepen their level of understanding of the central themes of alienation and its impacts on mental health by exploring the graphic novel. Students were able to work independently and with partners while grappling with this text, which created a great opportunity for conversations about the text and about its application to real life. All of my students were very grateful and appreciative to have the graphic novel as a resource during our study of this text. Thank you so much for your generous donation. This particular novel is very engaging because of the intense conflict the main character must overcome. The parallel storyline also keeps learners curious while trying to identify the connection between the two settings. In addition, the theme of this novel compliments our curriculum which is entitled Promise and Progress.
