My students were beyond excited when they saw the new alcohol markers—many of them had never worked with professional-quality markers before, and they couldn't wait to try them out.\r\n\r\nWe jumped right into using the markers for a poetry illustration project. Students created their own poems and then used the markers to bring their ideas to life. Some included words directly in their artwork, while others focused on expressing their poem's meaning entirely through visuals. It was amazing to see how confident and creative they became with access to tools that allowed them to blend, layer, and experiment freely.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, these markers will continue to be used for future projects, giving students the opportunity to design and create artwork that is meaningful and personal to them. Your support truly made a difference, and it helped spark excitement, creativity, and pride in our art room. Thank you for helping our students create and express themselves!","fullyFundedDate":1760650315805,"projectUrl":"project/markers-for-meaning-supporting-literacy/9825058/","projectTitle":"Markers for Meaning: Supporting Literacy Through Art","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dierkes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10310907"},{"teacherId":10310315,"projectId":9822992,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generous support of our digital art program and for helping make Wacom tablets a reality in our classroom. Because of your contribution, students are now learning with tools that mirror those used by artists and designers in real-world creative fields. The tablets allow students to draw, paint, and design directly on the screen with pressure-sensitive pens, which is far more intuitive than working with a mouse. This has deepened both their technical skills and their understanding of digital art concepts, while also supporting creative problem-solving, critique, and reflection throughout our projects.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the sense of control and authenticity the tablets provide. They can sketch ideas quickly, refine details with precision, and experiment freely with digital painting, illustration, character design, and storyboarding. Students are now able to practice their mark making and see the difference between static and dynamic line work whereas before they were previously limited to vector tools that uses primarily clean consistent line work. Students can now explore line work and different styles and even be able to express different ideas or feelings.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have especially connected with this new technology. Those who are new to digital art have found the tablets to be more natural and allow them to improve their drawing skills/techniques. Students who already had an interest in art have been able to push their skills further and better express their unique ideas. Most importantly, the tablets have leveled the playing field ensuring all students, regardless of background or access to technology at home, can fully participate and see themselves as capable digital artists. Your support has had a lasting impact on our students' confidence, creativity, and artistic growth, and we are truly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1760401725484,"projectUrl":"project/visual-literacy-in-a-digital-age/9822992/","projectTitle":"Visual Literacy in a Digital Age","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Frisbee","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10310315"},{"teacherId":9585905,"projectId":9843627,"letterContent":"I would first like to express my deepest and sincere gratitude for supporting my project and allowing me the opportunity to incorporate choice into our reading curriculum in my AP Literature and Composition classes. The excitement that students have expressed about having the opportunity to take a role in making a decision in their learning experience is something that has been reaffirming as a teacher, especially in a world where it has become increasingly difficult to find joy amidst the noise of our political climate. \r\n\r\nIt is not difficult for me to express to students why I love reading and what excites me about it. What I have noticed over the years is how difficult it is for students to express why reading is an important and joyful experience for them. Unfortunately, I think schools and well-intentioned reading programs have robbed students of this joy. We try too hard to dictate and control what we think students should be reading and studying and rarely provide them with opportunities to make these decisions for themselves. This project is just the beginning of what I envision as an opportunity to begin putting some of that ownership back into the hands of students.","fullyFundedDate":1760911105018,"projectUrl":"project/building-community-empathy-one-book-at-a/9843627/","projectTitle":"Building Community Empathy One Book at a Time!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McClain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9585905"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44495","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1913,"numTeachers":97,"percentFrplEligible":26,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":33,"percentWhite":51,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":9,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"19.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":88.1,"schoolId":44495,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Smyrna High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Smyrna High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/delaware/smyrna-school-district/smyrna-high-school/44495"}
