When my third graders first saw that they would have an opportunity to play this year, the first thing they said was, \"we get our own recorder?!\". I introduced them to using only their left hand and they had a ball figuring out how to switch between the different notes using a fun song I call \"Recorder Soup.\" Next semester, we will work on more call and response to prepare for playing more challenging rhythms. \r\n\r\nMy fourth graders have been practicing call and response and were able to play \"Mary Had a Little Lamb.\" It was fun seeing the healthy competition between the girls and the boys, as I had them each perform the song for each other.\r\n\r\nMy proudest moment was with my fifth graders. After learning how to read the notes on the treble clef staff, we completed a listening activity with the song \"March\" from the Nutcracker. I had them use the recorder to write out the notes of the main melody line and then we listened to see who had it correct. Most everyone was able to reiterate the melody!\r\n\r\nAfterwards, we practiced moving between all of the notes on the recorder, really focusing on properly using both hands when switching between higher and lower notes. Then, we put together a recorder performance using interpretive dance, xylophones, ribbons, and our main attraction, the recorders! They are so proud of it that they included their teachers to come and watch their performance. \r\n\r\nAs we enter into the new year, my hope is to have the kids perform their own marching bands now that they can play and move at the same time. We have an annual Fine Arts Night and as a first year teacher, I'm looking forward to starting new experiences for the kids to look forward to. They deserve these opportunities and I'm so glad that you see the potential for something great in each of them by investing in their education. We definitely could not have done it without your help.","fullyFundedDate":1752586545635,"projectUrl":"project/play-it-forward-fueling-musical-creativ/9420677/","projectTitle":"Play It Forward: Fueling Musical Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. E","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mseclassroom"},{"teacherId":6747502,"projectId":9770850,"letterContent":"My students have absolutely loved using Botzee!
