It is always exciting to see the excitement in the eyes of our students when they see new books on the shelves. And it was especially heart-warming to begin the year with new books for them.\r\n\r\nThey especially like the graphic novels that have been gifted to our school. This is always a popular section of our library. They are also enjoying the novels in verse that have been given to our school.\r\n\r\nAnd my favorite part is that one of our teachers has asked for a class set of one of the novels that was donated because several of her students have already read it and have talked about it with her. We received several copies of it and she was able to borrow one from the library. She decided it would a a great read for her eighth grade students. \r\n\r\nThank you again. Without donations from wonderful people like you, none of this would be possible.","fullyFundedDate":1746527061392,"projectUrl":"project/kids-need-diverse-books/9087145/","projectTitle":"Kids Need Diverse Books!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. M.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5316108"},{"teacherId":8064086,"projectId":9190398,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous support, our yearbook students now have the right tools to truly capture the spirit of our school! Many people are familiar with using cameras and smartphones at home, but having access to a dedicated DSLR camera in class takes our student learning to the next level. This camera allows students to learn real-world photography skills like adjusting manual settings, working with lighting, and composing meaningful shots—skills they can't fully practice with a phone. They're gaining hands-on experience that makes them more confident, capable, and creative.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting part for my students is that they can now document every special moment on campus with professional quality. From sporting events to assemblies and candid classroom shots, they feel a real sense of responsibility and pride knowing their photos will help tell the story of our school year. It's inspiring to watch them experiment with different techniques and take ownership of their work.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, has really taken off since this camera arrived. He used to be hesitant about participating, but now he's the first to volunteer to cover events and help others learn how to use the camera's settings. Your support has given him—and all my students—a chance to develop skills, grow as storytellers, and see their work come to life on the pages of our yearbook. They love seeing their artistic ideas come to life in ways they've never tried before, and they're gaining confidence as they master more advanced tools.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, has really blossomed since we added this new camera. She used to be shy about sharing her work, but now she's the first to grab the camera and help her classmates try new settings. From the moment the games arrived, there was a buzz of excitement in the room. Students eagerly unpacked each game, reading the rules and forming groups to play. What I witnessed in the weeks that followed was nothing short of transformational. Students who were once shy or hesitant to participate began opening up, engaging with their peers, and stepping into leadership roles. The games created a safe, structured environment where collaboration, communication, and critical thinking naturally flourished.\r\n\r\nEach Friday, students look forward to game time as a reward for their hard work throughout the week. But beyond just being fun, the games have taught them how to be better teammates and listeners. I've watched students encourage one another, negotiate respectfully during disagreements, and celebrate each other's successes. Even when tensions rise in competitive moments, students have learned to manage their emotions and show good sportsmanship. One student told me, \"I used to hate group projects, but now I feel more confident talking to people and working together.\" That kind of growth is exactly what I hoped for when starting this project.\r\n\r\nThe impact has extended into the classroom as well. I've noticed improvements in group activities and discussions across subjects—students are more patient, more willing to share ideas, and more receptive to others' viewpoints. For our AVID program, which focuses on building college and career readiness through academic and social support, these skills are crucial. Fun Fridays with board games have become more than just a break from routine—they've become a vital part of our classroom culture. Thank you for making this possible. Your generosity has provided my students with more than games; you've given them opportunities to connect, grow, and thrive together.","fullyFundedDate":1746803095116,"projectUrl":"project/game-on-for-growth-building-skills-thro/9310759/","projectTitle":"Game On for Growth: Building Skills Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lux","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8064086_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1665677326693","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8064086"},{"teacherId":5316108,"projectId":8848250,"letterContent":"Our students love to read! Our school library serves 750 students in 7th and 8th grade. As you can imagine, accidents happen. Books get lost. Sometimes a water bottle leaks all over a backpack. And our well-loved books have a tendency to fall apart after dozens of check-outs.\r\n\r\nYour donation helped restock some of our most popular titles and authors. The students were stunned by the kindness of strangers and couldn't believe that people from across the nation helped purchase new books for us. \r\n\r\nIn a time when budgets are shrinking, it is heartening that people can come together to support kids. All the new copies of Dork Diaries and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series are currently checked out. The addition of books from popular authors like Rex Ogle and Kwame Alexander have excited our young readers.
