My students are absolutely ecstatic with the amount of choice they get in picking their own books and having such a diverse library. I have witnessed a sky-rocketed level of interest in reading this year than I have in my previous years of teaching. It is so lovely to see the love of reading grow in my students this year! \r\nIn class, we have a routine of silent reading every single Friday and your funding for this project has truly helped all my students find a book they can connect with or have an interest in. My MLL students and my students who struggle with reading are especially excited with the new graphic novels and poetry books since these books meet my students at their level while still keeping them engaged. \r\nThank you again. There has truly been such a shift towards a positive mindset to reading and books with your donation. The \"Book Nook\" addition has impacted all of my students in such a positive way. The bean bag chairs, carpet, and new graphic novels were met with so much excitement and positivity. \r\n\r\nMy students were beyond ecstatic when they saw the new bean bag chairs and reading area for the class for the first time. Many students immediately lit up and cheered when I started explaining that someone sponsored this classroom and they had new books to enjoy and a safe calm space to take a break. This space has become immeasurably important to the culture and classroom environment in my room. The new books have passed hands and been read through many times over and the students have loved the fun stories and even asked for more recommendations. My multi-lingual students have loved the graphic pictures and the books have helped to improve their literacy! The bean bag chairs have served as a break space when students feel overwhelmed, a comfy reading chair for when we have silent reading time, and something that students fight over to be able to experience daily. \r\n\r\nAgain, thank you so much for your donation. The impact is felt deeply and appreciatively. My students and I are incredibly grateful for this addition and it has made the school days that much brighter. You provided us with times table pop-its, division and multiplication fact flashcard sets, and budgeting board games. We distributed these resources to families during family math night, along with information about free tutoring and online math help resources. We showed families how to use these resources, and we hope that siblings are practicing their math facts together at home. Our math intervention classes also received classroom sets of the multiplication and division flashcards. \r\nMath night was an incredible opportunity to connect with families around real world math activities, and to build their confidence in math. Families often express frustration that they don't know how to help their children with math. During math night, we played math games that families can easily play at home with their children, and also showed them what they already know about budgeting and even making recipes for different numbers of people. \r\nStudents and parents loved the math pop-its and games that they took home. They left feeling empowered and equipped to continue practicing math both at home and at school.","fullyFundedDate":1740538270230,"projectUrl":"project/middle-school-family-math-night-supplies/9128989/","projectTitle":"Middle School Family Math Night Supplies: Math Resources for Families","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mitchel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9930624"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30940","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":572,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":14,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":25,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":27,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"18.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.5,"schoolId":30940,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sequoyah Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sequoyah Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/federal-way-public-schools/sequoyah-middle-school/30940"}
