Because of you, this space has truly become a place where students want to be. When everything was set up, my students immediately noticed the difference. They walked in, looked around, and you could hear the excitement. Several students asked right away if they could sit in the new area and read. Others started browsing the shelves, taking their time picking books that caught their interest.\r\n\r\nWe use the reading center every day during independent reading time. Students choose a spot that works for them, whether that is on the floor cushions or near the shelves, and settle in with a book. The organization has made a big difference. Students can easily find books, return them, and try something new without feeling overwhelmed. One moment that stood out to me was watching a student who usually struggles to stay focused sit down, get comfortable, and read for the entire block without needing reminders. That moment showed me just how much the environment matters.\r\n\r\nThis space has also helped strengthen important reading skills. Students are building stamina, practicing comprehension, and having more meaningful conversations about what they read. They are recommending books to each other, asking questions, and making connections in ways that feel natural. Reading is starting to feel less like an assignment and more like something they enjoy.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are using this reading center to support our current lessons and projects. Students are selecting texts to help them gather ideas, build background knowledge, and prepare for writing tasks. As we continue working on reading comprehension and written responses, this space will play a big role in helping them stay engaged and confident.\r\n\r\nThank you for creating a space where my students feel comfortable, focused, and excited to read. Some of them went straight to the books, while others found a spot on the carpet and just took it all in. It was one of those moments that reminded me why this work matters.\r\n\r\nThe new books have made a big difference in how my students approach reading. Many of them are drawn to graphic novels and stories that reflect their own lives, so having those options has helped them stay engaged and build confidence. During reading time, students are practicing important skills like understanding the text, making connections, and discussing ideas with each other. What I love most is hearing them talk about what they are reading and recommend books to their classmates. That kind of excitement cannot be forced, and your support helped make it possible.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom now looks more relaxed and meaningful. Students are comfortable, focused, and actually enjoying the experience. I have seen students who used to struggle with staying on task now choosing to read without being reminded. They could not wait to try them out, and many of them were asking right away if they could use them during independent reading time. What stood out most was how quickly they settled into their reading once they were comfortable. Students who would normally shift around in their chairs or lose focus were able to stay engaged for longer periods of time. It was a simple change, but it made a noticeable difference.\r\n\r\nWe began using the seating during independent reading and small group instruction. One moment that stood out was during a reading block when students were spread out across the room using the floor seats. The classroom felt calm, focused, and productive. Students were reading quietly, discussing their books with peers, and staying on task without constant redirection. For many of my students, especially those who benefit from movement or flexible seating, having the option to sit comfortably on the floor helped them regulate and stay engaged.\r\n\r\nThese seats have also supported students who may struggle in traditional seating arrangements. Being able to choose where and how they sit has helped build independence and confidence. Students are making better choices about their learning and taking more ownership of their environment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue to use the floor seating during reading time, collaborative activities, and small group instruction. From the moment it was set up, students were excited to print their work and see it in a polished, final form. This technology has already started to change how my students approach writing. Instead of writing just to complete an assignment, they are writing with purpose, knowing their work will be published and shared.\r\n\r\nWhat has been most exciting is seeing students' reactions when they hold their printed work. There is a sense of pride and ownership that comes with seeing their ideas brought to life. Students are taking more time to revise and improve their writing because they want their final product to reflect their best effort. Even students who were previously hesitant about writing are becoming more engaged and willing to participate.\r\n\r\nI have already noticed students asking to print additional drafts, make edits, and improve their work before publishing. This shows a shift in mindset from simply completing assignments to truly developing as writers. One student who often struggled with motivation was eager to revise their work multiple times just to see it printed again, which was a huge step forward.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we will continue using the printer to publish narrative, argumentative, and informational pieces. Students will share their work with peers, build confidence, and grow as writers throughout the year. Your support has made an immediate and meaningful impact in our classroom. Instead of passively sitting, they were up, engaged, and talking about what they were seeing and learning.\r\n\r\nOne of our first projects using these materials was a bulletin board focused on the history of our school and Martha Scofield. Students were able to visually explore important information, discuss what they learned, and connect it to their own experiences as members of the school community. This project allowed students to take ownership of their learning while also building a sense of pride in where they go to school. Many of my students shared that they had never known the history behind our school's name, and it sparked meaningful conversations in the classroom.\r\n\r\nThese visual learning spaces have been especially impactful for my students who benefit from additional support, including those with learning differences. Many of the boys in our book club have limited access to books at home and mixed feelings about reading, so a high-interest, low-reading-level graphic novel like HiLo is especially effective. The combination of accessible text and engaging visuals helps students build confidence while strengthening essential literacy skills such as comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary development, and making inferences from both text and illustrations. The fast-paced plot and humor lower barriers to participation and motivate students to stay engaged through the entire book.\r\nIn our book club, reading is active, social, and student-centered. Students read independently, read aloud with peers, and pause frequently to discuss characters, predict outcomes, and connect events in the story to their own experiences. Graphic novels allow students to closely analyze images, dialogue, and action, supporting learners who benefit from visual cues while still promoting higher-order thinking. The themes of friendship, identity, bravery, and problem-solving resonate strongly with our students and create natural opportunities for discussion and reflection.\r\nSeveral boys who previously avoided reading are now some of the most enthusiastic participants. Students who rarely finished a book are proudly completing HiLo, asking for the next book in the series, and recommending it to friends. For many of these boys, this was one of the first times they saw themselves as successful readers.
